The recommended time is 6 weeks and there are good reasons for it, most important being the risk of serious infection. You need time to heal.

And with a newborn on your hands, you also need time to rest and attend to its needs and adjust to being a mother.

And while 6 weeks is the norm, some women may need a little longer. My mother suffered greatly in the postpartum period and took usually 8 weeks to totally heal.

Your doctor should have told you this - nothing goes in the vagina for 6 weeks, no sex, no tampons, no vibrators, fingers, nothing. Even if your bleeding stops before then and you feel fine, your vagina, cervix, and uterus still need time to heal. There are often abrasions and lacerations internally, as well as the location where the placenta attached to the uterus, that need to completely heal, because they are prime places for infections to happen when germs are introduced.

Sure, there's lots of women who don't wait the full 6 weeks and don't have problems, but why risk it? You follow your doc's medical advice for 9 months because it's in the best interest of you and your baby, so why go against their advice on this important part? Trust me, it wouldn't be fun going septic and needing being hospitalized when you should be at home with your baby.

6 weeks isn't that long, and there are other ways to be intimate. Let your doctor be the one to decide if you're well enough - they are the experts.

you can have sex as soon as you feel comfortable.
the doctors do say wait six weeks, but i'm sure you've heard of the cases where women have gone for their six week check up, and they were pregnant!
so, it's truly up to you.
i would definitely say - don't do it within the first 2-3 weeks, just becuause you need to give your body (the passage way) a chance to heal.
but, once that urge comes over you, and your "friend" let's you know that she's ready for the stimulation (rather, that she's able to handle the stimulation), then you're good to go.

god bless.

p.s. i do agree with Jill that your body needs to heal, but there is no set clock on how long that will take. and there are other ways to satisy your libido without penetration....

six weeks, that is preferable by the doctors. That way your not having sex while being torn inside or stitches or etc.plus after having a baby so soon you are very fertile.

The norm is to wait 6 weeks. I am not sure if it's the same if you've had a c-section but it could be.

You are supposed to wait 6 weeks, but I think if you have stopped bleeding you will be ok.
