I have Completed the game and I still cannot play as:
The Papal States
The Mongols
The Timruids
How can you go these factions in the game?

those are the factions you cannot play as
only in costume battle
i beleive there are some mods that allow you to play as those factions.

One...I haven't completed the game and if you did I suspect it was through the use of cheat codes.
Two..as I recall...you cannot play as the Papal States. That is unless this is afforded to you in the game when your Bishop is pious enough to make Pope. But I don't believe so.
In addition...the Mongols were well before the Middle Ages..although again...having not advanced that fair by playing fairly and without cheat codes....I could be wrong on this as well.

medieval 2 because its more like rome and rome was the best total war game. i thought the gameplay of empire was boring and shogun 2 was the least open world of any total war game.
