Your right I think men are more domesticated these days. Due to more wives out there in the working world. We've come a long way from the Bever Cleaver days and thank heavens for that ....I could not even imagine wearing a fancy dress with pearls and high heeled shoes to clean the toilets and getting my laundry done. Yes more men these days are putting on the apron and mine is one of them. He bakes, prepares our meals like someones grandmother and I am not kidding you! Even has taken courses on making home made bread. I am always being told to get out of his kitchen. He does the whole thanksgiving dinner for the entire famiy all by himself. I can cook but you wouldn't know it around here because he loves and enjoys the glory of compliments he gets from everybody. I don't mind it ....but my brothers and brother-inlaws get a lot of trouble from their wives over it.

Good question. I don't think women like seeing their husbands domesticated as much as they like seeing their husbands pulling their own weight with the household duties. I personally don't wear an apron because I don't like to cook, and when I do, if I get something on it, then I change my clothes. Wives back them felt like it was required to always look presentable for their husbands, therefore wear an apron to protect their clothes. I think men wear aprons now because they always make a show of things and search for validation so by wearing an apron, especially with some idiotic phrase on it, then they are calling attention to themselves and the fact that are being a modern man. Just my opinion though.

Well the only time I see men wearing aprons is when they are barbecuing and they are masculine funny aprons. I wear an apron when I bake; especially if flour is involved. Maybe your question isn't about who wears an apron, but why women aren't submissive to their husbands as June was on this show. Of course, the husband on this show made great money, helped with the children, never cheated and showed June much affection. She may not have cared about 'wearing an apron' under those circumstances.

June Cleaver was from a time when things were a little different.
One - at that time a woman was expected to be "ready for guests" at moment's notice. The apron helped to keep her attire clean so that if a guest arrived at the door she could whip off the apron and greet them in clean clothing.
Also, at that time laundry was not as easy as it is now. Laundry soaps and stain removers were not perfected, and washing machines were not the nice automatics we have now a days. Plus, most things required ironing. People also had a lot less clothing back then - meaning if you stained two or three dresses you might not have another house dress available to throw on.

I have an apron and I wear it to protect my clothing if I'm doing something messy in the kitchen............IF I'm dressed in nice clothing. If I'm running around in sweats I don't bother. I think the image back then was that women dressed better. It might be true. I spend most of my day looking like crap unless I'm going out. I figure why dress up to cook and clean. I'm old fashioned in the way I like to shower and dress before hubby comes home. Before that I'm in "work" clothes.....I guess things have changed a little?......My husband has never put an apron on.....ever...

Yesterday at church the men AND boys served lunch and dinner in aprons. It was a nice change and the food tasted better than when the ladies made it. Of COURSE the world has changed, it never ceases to change. We just have to change with it. My husband is a better cook than me, but since he makes the big bucks, I gladly wear the apron and cook his meals. Gladly. Feminist, you can just kiss it. I'm strong enough to let him lead me. Peace.

I do still wear aprons, but not always. Only when I am concerned with protecting my clothing while cooking or cleaning. But most of the time when I am cooking and cleaning I am wearing old clothes that I don't care about staining anyway.

It all depends on where you are I suppose.
At some of the finer Hotels/Resorts the waitresses still do.
I was one and know this for a fact.
However, in todays world if a guy wears one he is a chef or
a cook.
