Tadahito Iguchi was the first Japanese born player to win a World Series in 2005. Before him, three players appeared on World Series losing teams in each of the prior three years -- Tsuyoshi Shinjo, Hideki Matsui, and So Taguchi. (Taguchi won last year with the Cardinals.)

Tadahito Iguchi - 2005 Chicago White Sox
So Taguchi - 2006 St. Louis Cardinals

it is interesting to note also that the first Japanese-born player to have received a World Series ring is Hideki Irabu. In fact, he has two World Series rings since he is a part of the New York Yankees when they won back-to-back championship in 1997-98. but he was not in the roster of that team when they played in the World Series in both years. he only pitched in one postseason game and didn't have a decision.

Shingo Takatsu also received his World Series ring in 2005 when he was a part of the White Sox despite the fact that he was demoted to the minors by the team during the summer.
