They are two separate pieces of hardware. If the motherboard goes out, the hard disk is still good so long as it wasn't a power spike that caused the problem; then the hard disk may have gone bad as well.

Yes the Hard disk is connected with Motherboard through a single data transfer wire.
If the reason for the breakage of the Motherboard is power surge than there is a chance that the same instance of power surge cause breakage of the HDD also.. because the motherboard and HDD gets power supply from a single and same PSU.
but if the Motherboard died just due to its own fault or EOL then there is no chance that hard disk break down.
So you will have to see due to which reason your motherboard breaks down.

Yes, the harddisk is connected via the power and data bus to the MBoard.There is a possibilitiy of the hard disk being affected if power cracks down on the MBoard.

If the Mother board breaks down your whole computer is affected. Look inside and you will see a data cable from your hard drive to the mother board. The processor is on the mother board and if it isn't working than you have a real problem. The hard drive and any other drives are just peripherals that are used to store the OS and other data.

Yes you can, if on the motherboard IDE and Sata both port available. or You can buy IDE to sata cable from market by which you can connect IDE HDD to sata port.

it is connected by wire but if your motherboard goes down your HD will be just fine.
