I hear many on Y!A talk about the 'redneck' south but I guess since liberals abide in the north, tolerance and 'enlightment' rules the day.

It really doesn't.

Who knew?

well, first of all, there are "rednecks" everywhere across the nation.. upstate NY, Penn, northern cali.. just about anywhere. so, whoever has made that statement is just about as worse than a "redneck"... secondly, all these stories of racial tension and intolerance is just the result of the mass media taking a story ideal and running with it.. sure it happens.. but, the past couple of weeks... the media has made it seem as though it's a crisis or something... remember when the mine collapses were the talk of the town and every single day it seemed like there were miners trapped. and now? you don't hear about them as much. sure, miners get trapped... but, now we're not bombarded with stories of them... i'm not condoning what has happened.. just, explaining the situation.

I did quite fine in impressive environments for learning that had no air conditioning. This is obscene. How much do the folks above think we should spend on the school? How much would be to much? My county recently rejected a price tag about one twelfth of that for a new high school for roughly one thousand students.

Nice try. Bush received 57% of the Staten Island vote in 2004.

Yes, it is - because most folks can't remember the last time such foolishness appeared in New York. If it appears like once in a blue moon, it's safe to say it does not represent the State of New York - or Oklahoma, or New Mexico, or Missouri, or Texas, or Tennessee....

I wonder if anyone has considered whether this is a cry for attention rather than something racist? Don't get me wrong, the whole connotation is despicable, but Tawanna Brawley just keeps coming to mind.

Redneck Whitetrash Hillbillies live in every state. Just like there are a few educated free thinkers capable of critical thought in the south.

Just a few, but they are there.

There is nothing Liberal or tolerant about that. It's pretty ridiculous that you are using a sad and disgusting event to prove your point. There are prejudiced idiots everywhere. It is not limited to "southern rednecks" or "liberal northerners".

Rumor has it there's a progressive or two in the south, too. When you believe stereotypes, all you do is demonstrate that there's some truth to them.

I would say that the conservatives are more noted for this kind of thing. Even though there are not as many of you in the northeast, you're still there.
Not that I'm saying conservatives are racist, I'm just defending my party against your question. Democrats are promoting a black man as a presidential candidate, by the way.
