East coast for me. Jay-Z, Nas, Wu Tang, The Lox. Old school east coast rap was the best though. KRS one,Rakim, Biggie (is he old school..Damn I'm old)
I can't get into the south to much I will listen to selected songs on certain days depending on my mood. I just can't see myself snapping or popping or cranking anything.
For me all music regardless of genre has to be about the lyrics. If your lyrics are not there I'm not listening to it. I don't care if its rap r&b or rock if I can't feel what you saying you gets no play or purchase from me.

Old School I guess... Not so familiar with the styles though... maybe part of the West coast, you know 2pac :) and that part of the East that you mentioned, especially Wu-Tang :)

in case your searching for genuine Hardcore hip-hop then adult adult males like the Wu-Tang prolonged relatives are large. i love Nas, Lupe, GZA (he's from Wu-Tang) etc. are strong. i love a robust mixture of pass and inner rhymings coupled with lyrics that are deep, those 3 rappers are ideal for that. some rappers that the conventional hip-hop fan would like are Immortal Technque, AZ, back Nas, massive L, and perchance some previous Jay-Z.
