Both, would be the correct answer. In our cultural we condition our girls to prefer pink and purple, but there's also a deeper influence as well. Researchers have discovered that men and women naturally prefer different colors and have so for thousands of years. Men generally prefer blue and women gravitate towards the pinker end of the blue spectrum, although many women like blue, too. Some scientists believe it has something to do with evolution. Women have a very clear pattern. It’s low in the yellow and green regions and rises to a peak in the purplish to reddish region.

Apparently it goes back to the cavemen. Men would look out for blue skies for good hunting weather, and women developed a liking for pink/red colours as they would be the ones going out looking for berries. Don't know how true that is but that is what the scientists have come up with.

Why is red associated with stop and green with go? Or blue with cold? Or black with bad and white with good? If you know the answer to these, then maybe we can know why pink is associated with femininity. My theory on it is that pink is a very floral colour in nature.

it comes naturally. all girls don't like pink, some girls like it and some girls don't. It is just how babies are marked when younger.
Like when I was little I liked green, then pink, then blue, and now I like blue, pink, and green. But I always liked the lighter shades of them.

I think it is expected of them, but not all girls like pink. Take my sister for example she was fond of the color blue, for years. Now she likes pink. Then you got my aunt who likes purple. My father and my cousin like the color green, and My mother and I don't have a favorite color. This doesn't prove anything, but for some people it comes natural and others just have various tastes.

in the netherlands blue is considered a very feminine colour and orange the default male colour.
So the whole pink/blue thing we have is complete conditioning.

No, it doesn't come natrally. Personally, even though I always liked pink, it's not one of my favorite colors. My favorite colors are blue and purple.

......or somewhere in between! It's just a traditional thingy for girls to wear pink and it kinda stuck. Then there's the saying that, "Pink makes the boys wink."

I like purple and black - and always have but that was given hand me downs from family (who were mainly boys)
so maybe the abundance of pink clothes has conditioned them into prefering it..
