I was once told it was for media. Another time it was to divide the opposing fans. Yet another time I was told it's not a good 'view'. Its the exact CF section.

You need a solid black backgroud so the hitter can see
the ball coming from the pitcher.

If you have people sitting right behind the view of the pitcher
with white shirts you will never pick up the ball.

Hitting background. Baseball stadiums were selling out all year and those seats would have been filled if not for the hitters benefit. Plain and simple.

For the batters benefit. No waving arms no white and multicolored shirts. No white signs brought in by the fans and so forth.

It is done so the batter has clear vision of the pitched ball.

Those seats are reserved for the spirits of the ancestors of the ball players - dead ancestors are revered in Japan very much.
