I try and hold off as long as possible, mainly because I'm too lazy to squeeze into the depths on my garage and flick the switch. Right now it's floating between 69 and 70 in my home. It will need to drop down to about 60 before I start turning on the electric heat in the morning. That's just to take the chill off when we wake up. The heating system gets turned on around 57. I like it cold in the house. I don't mind throwing on a sweater or covering up with a blanket and neither do the kids. In fact, my bedroom window is open at night all year round. In the warmer months I have a fan and in the colder months I take the fan out and leave it cracked. I sleep better that way.

I live in East Central Illinois. As much money that we have put out on elecrtic bills for the summer, I can honestly answer, no, our heat has not been turned on yet. My husband and I really say that it has not been cold enough here yet. The coldest it has gotten here, at night, is maybe upper 30's and upper 40's. We will not freeze, but we just don't feel like we have needed the heat just yet.

Finally wussed out and turned it on on Friday morning. Then had all my doors and windows opened to enjoy a beautiful sunny warm day on Sunday. Hasn't decided yet if the weather is gonna be cold or warm.

Heck no! This is southern New Mexico, we don't turn our furnaces on until November. Last night was the first night in months that I didn't have to run the air conditioner at least part of the night to cool off.

My husband checked it out to make sure it works okay but we haven't used it yet. A couple of mornings I wanted to though when i was getting ready for work and he was still snug in bed with the dog.
PS I Live in Michigan, too. We just layer up more, I guess.
