Disagree. We need to project our will on our representatives, lead them to enforcing the Constitution, and restore our Democracy by rolling up our sleeves and using the tools at hand.
When that doesn't work, I'll be on the barricades with all the other revolutionaries.
In the meantime,...
Fiddlesticks9 says that war, including revolution, is “the ultimate proof of human failure to reason. Nobody needs a revolution, just a change of status quo via discussion, logic, and reason,” which pretty much invalidates the American Revolution.
Michael F wants us to revert to English rule: “I think this country has had one to [sic] many.” Michael, the Brits might hang your for mangling the Queen’s English!
Not sure what the TR quotation shows, but it makes me feel like puffing out my chest and brandishing a six-gun.
Trapperjohn57 dislikes punctuation and thinks that official corruption is the reason for a revolution – that gets you the Pakistani/Thai model of military coup to oust corrupt civilian officials, which regularly dissolves in a puddle of corruption, or worse, turns into Burma or Sudan. He also thinks that the gummint (I miss Molly Ivins) controls commodity pricing. I think the perspective he wants us to have might not work out to our mutual benefit.
Tyler Texas and Rедиска think that the revolutionary supporters will be the first to be executed under the new regime. I think we’ve seen that happen a lot, but the American Revolution, again, doesn’t bear this out. That was against an overseas ruler, however, not an internal ruler. I’m not sure that matters because King George III’s soldiers and many Loyalists were in the US at the time.
As far as looking “from a historical perspective,” that’s pretty vague, as there are as many historical perspectives as there are people who care to look at history, and perhaps more (as people change their minds).
Rедиска insists that “revolution is invariably followed by an economic and social collapse, as well as political repressions,” but again, I think this doesn’t hold out in the case of the American Revolution. Economic downturn, social strife – yes, but not collapse. Not without intervening decades and additional factors - I'm thinking of the Civil War, here.
Daughter Four – How many of our freedoms are being maintained? Are you maintaining any of them? If so, you’re doing a lousy job. I miss the Fourth Amendment. Could we get on maintaining that, please, people?
CFB says that the “original Revolution in THIS country happened along [sic] time before the shooting started.” That’s a semantic point. The foundation of the American Revolution can be projected back to the Mayflower Compact, Locke’s Two Treatises, the English Civil War, the Magna Carta, or the Roman uprising against the Etruscan king. Why not? The actual revolution tends to refer to the period of fighting. Remember that the peaceful Boston Tea Party followed the Boston Massacre by three years. Which was part of the Revolution? I’m okay with both of them.
Cookies – Stop quoting liberals! Why do you hate America? (nice pick – I liked this one more before I heard Tim Weiner interviewed about his recent book, Legacy of Ashes. Now I feel guilty admiring JFK. Can you recommend an antidote?)
Enigma – You make sense. Go away. Except for the major boycotts thing. I’m being won around to the opinion that the corporations are mainly shielded from the effects, but the workers get slammed. Waitaminute – nobody makes anything in the US anymore. You’re making sense again!
John M – Thank G-d for you and Ann “perfect Christian” Coulter. Could you hightail it over to Iraq and convert some jihadis for us? Let me know how it goes.
mamadixie – It would be easier to answer the question if you could spell.
it is me – How fitting, that you get the last word. You say we should all shut up. You first!
That was fun, everyone! Thanks. Can we do this again?

Are you talking about the Unitd States if so yes
we do need another revolution in this country to get rid of the corrupt officials in this country and also start having laws that are fair to everyone not just the rich such as prices in this country say for example if you make something for 25 cents you should not be allowed to sell it for more than 50 cents because your making
your cost back to make it (the 25 cents+the other 25 cents which is a 100% profit)just because this is a democracy does not give you the right to legally steal from the american people You see I thought about this alot (on a test for example you can only get 100% not 200% or 300% or whatever)so why do we allow this to happen If u want to get rich that's fine but gradually not overnight otherwise you end up tking money from the rest of us who need it too so yes I think we Need a Revolution again to start getting things into perspective

To be successful you would have to get the majority of the people to agree with you. Under the current system we can't even agree on basic issues. This is the master plan to keep us divided in a way that prevents a revolt against the government. We're too busy pointing fingers and ignoring who the real enemy is. We have the power to make a real change only most of America has forgotten this fundamental truth.
It is possible to revolt peacefully too. Major boycotts are a very effective way to bring down the corruption in government.

A revolution is invariably followed by an economic and social collapse, as well as political repressions -- usually against the very people who brought it about and supported it. What makes you think YOU won't end up condemned as an "enemy of the people" and executed in the name of the Revolution or die of typhoid fever and starvation in the beautiful new world you helped create?

Peaceful revolutions are being fought all over the U.S. in homes, charter schools, and in the alternative media.
As long as our freedoms are maintained, we do not need a violent revolution.

Nope I think this country has had one to many. I think maybe the news media needs to have a little revolution to bring the news to it people.

Well, if you look at it from a historical perspective--when your revolutionary comrades suceed, you will probably be among the first shot. The typical revolutionary government does this under the logic that if you turn traitor to your own government--it's just as likely you'll turn traitor to the one that replaces it. Be careful what you wish for my friend, those kind of wishes have a nasty habit of being fatal.

In America, I disagree. The precepts of how our government should function are still valid today.
However, we need to hold our elected officials accountable and make them remember they are doing the People's business and they work for us. Stop letting them get away with distracting us from the real issues, and if they don't deal with the real issues, we are obligated to vote them out of office and select another leader who will do better.
