With the Republican minority in congress ready to support Bush's veto of the SCHIP program that is favored by over 70% of Americans and increased reports of the demise of the middle class, what can the Republicans do looking forward to change their image of being uncaring towards children and the middle class?

But,......but,.......but, they ARE doing EVERYTHING for the American people.
Fox News says they are, and we all KNOW Fox News is 'looking out for us'.
You know, the 'We are 'fair and balanced' and 'the spin stops here' knights in shining armour?
Do you mean you don't believe them?
Shame on you.
Are you 'emboldening the enemy'?
'Endangering the troops'?
'Supporting MoveOn.org'?
'Hugging a tree'?
'Smoking dope'?
Now, just wear your American flag lapel pin, and shut up, okay?

LOL!

Of course the Republicans care about children and the middle class! Unfortunately they don't care as much about that as they do shooting down a Democrat led plan to smear this congress. The Republican led congress didn't pass one single bit of legislation that improved the health of so many uninsured children or that improved the status of lower class Americans.
Its politics at its best! This president just will not work together with this congress to do anything productive on behalf of our country and those who need its countries support.
So to answer your question...they need to shake up their party big time! They need to get more mainstream Americans in the forefront of their party.
Right now, mostly very well off individuals who are vested in many Fortune 500 companies make up the Republican Party. Most of which have never seen or experienced the perils of poverty. They don't really understand the circumstances in which folks fall into poverty. So why should they care? Most think that it is fault of their own that they are poor.
Historically it was the republicans that were the party of the people, but over time that has changed dramatically as the very rich have used politics for private gain. Which gets to the root of the problem.
See, big business knows that in order to have legislation and laws passed that favor their interest, they have to do several things. First have good lobbyist who are relentless. Secondly have lots of money. And third put people in the position to actually propose legislation and pass laws in the form of Senators and Congressman. Of course the money is the support behind achieving the other two.
So if we look at just how much corrupt behavior this administration and its Republican constituents have shown and been prosecuted for, it is only indicative of one thing....GREED!...Personal gain!....The people of the United States take a back seat!!!
Unfortunately our President of these United States, does not care about the common folk.
So my friend there is no easy answer on this one.
Tough times are just around the corner for this country....in more ways than one!

because our senses artwork. as an social gathering, "small organization and the middle type" easily benefited from rather GOP tax coverage that has easily been carried out. Why do Democrats imagine that Democrat politicians care about Democrats? ALL info is they continually vote adversarial to their needs.

The reason SChip is vetoed is it's present form. It is still being funded, but not at the level the the Lib's want.

try again with a question that has some meaning.

They could care about children and the middle class instead of trying to project the image of caring about children and the middle class. Balancing the budget and not burdening today children with debt would show that they care. But turning down health care for children to save money while approving a huge Pentagon budget and their favorite pork projects makes it hard to believe they care about spending or children.

O.K. this doesn't exactly answer your question but alot of this confusion and smoke and mirrors from both parties could be eliminated if we would just pass a "line item veto". The the Pres, from whichever party, would have the authority to veto all the B.S. in a bill and just pass the important stuff the bill was designed to do.

become democrats

they had 6 years of total control, House, Senate and President

instead they spent money on pork and ill concieved wars with out and supervision, we have been ripped off to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars

they really lost theyre way and the independants of this country (who are the ones that pick the presidents) will not trust them for at least another election cycle, they might as well fold up the tents and go home this time around

Get the oppressive taxes off the populace so they can afford to purchase their own coverage, and allow insurance companies to compete for offering low-cost coverage. Too many people think giving handouts is helping people, all it does it make them lazy and dependent. Sometimes it's kinder to teach the person to fish. Exceptions to this are those who are truly disabled.or ill. Captain John Smith at Jamestown addressed this problem by telling the people who thought they were too good to work, that if they didn't work, then they won't be fed. It's a human problem that there are people who are willing to live off other people's work.
