The internet was invented by the US Military (DOD) back in the '60's. It was called the Arpanet.

Uh huh and YOU use the Internet as well, do YOU use it for a "platform of terror"? If it IS the "Platform of Terror" you and all your little buddies claim it to be, you should all immediately stop using the Internet, stop paying for access to it and let the rest of us "Godless, Commie Pinko Lib'rals" to use it in peace. Obviously, your continued use of the Internet only "emboldens the enemy", so you should have signed offline already, and will be unable to read the rest of the answer to your propaganda, er, I mean, question.
As far as YOU using the Net to futher "terrorists' goals", it sure sounds like it to me, you're trying to use fear to make people think the Nobel Prize is not a remarkable achievement. Why shouldn't we lump you in with the rest of the terrorists?
Does Martha Stewart use the Internet for terror? This kind of right wing ignorance just makes the Dems look so smart and competent in comparison, so keep up the good work!
The Internet was strictly a military information clearinghouse until Al Gore came along. He correctly reasoned that, since there was nothing classified (you know, like the names of female CIA agents working in Iraq) in it and it was paid for by US taxpayer money, why SHOULDN'T everyone enjoy and benefit from it
And now we have 'concerned citizens" criticizing a Prize and I'll bet you you don't even know WHY Alfred Nobel started the "Peace Prize" or where he got the money to do it.
Ignorance, Fear and Hate are NOT (or at least should NOT be) planks in the Republican party Platform. I guess when you can't find anything legitimate to whine about, emotions are all that's left.
This pervasive attitude of "Republican Party, Before ANYTHING, Including God and Country" is nothing more than modern fascism, and it WILL cost you representation in the US Government. Thanks again for being so OBVIOUSLY out of touch and ignorant.
Why are you still online, reading this? Don't you support the troops?

How does being a front man for scientists qualify Gore for the Nobel Prize?
1) Nothing can be done about GW without political action.
2) Political action requires voter support.
3) Voter support depends on voter understanding.
4) Voter understanding comes from voter education.
5) Voter education comes almost entirely from journalists because over 98% of the population can't read a scientific journal.
6) Journalists write only when they have a story to tell.
7) Only politicians and celebrities can make enough noise to get the attention of a journalist so he/she will have a story.
Now, was that so hard to follow?
So without Al Gore to front for scientists, your grandchildren would be toast - and I mean real toast, you idiot.

Here's what Gore actually said, during an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer:
"During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."
In context, it's obvious that Gore was only claiming to have moved the Internet forward at the governmental level, by offering support and resources to help it grow. Unless he was also claiming to have invented the environment and the economy!
In fact, what Gore really meant is so obvious that those who have attacked Gore over the years have felt the need to misquote him. "Al Gore says he invented the Internet" sure does sound ridiculous... except that he never said it.
What Gore Really Did
Is it true that Gore "took the initiative in creating the Internet?" Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf, who invented the TCP/IP protocol that is at the core of all Internet communication, certainly think so:
"As the two people who designed the basic architecture and the core protocols that make the Internet work, we would like to acknowledge VP Gore's contributions as a Congressman, Senator and as Vice President. No other elected official, to our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of time."
Among other things, Kahn and Cerf were referring to the High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991, originated by then-Senator Gore, which provided funding and resources for the growth of the Internet.
To summarize: no, Al Gore did not invent the Internet. I reserve that term for the people who figure out how a thing should work, at a practical, nuts-and-bolts technological level. But Gore never claimed to have invented the Internet. He did claim to have played a role in creating the Internet as we know it - which is quite true.

In response to your last question, as an American citizen, I would rather have Al Gore as the President than the two you mention. I fail to understand why anyone would think that being the Mayor of NY on 9 11 qualifies Rudy as a President. I'm not putting down the job he did...just there is a BIG difference in being Mayor of NY and President of the US.
P.S. Al didn't REALLY invent the internet...that was to see how many people would really believe it!

While in congress, he co-wrote some bills that help with the initial research and development of the internet. He never said he invented the internet, its just one of those stories some right wing talking head made up.
As far as if I was an al qaida leader, who would I want elected, it would be Fred Thompson, it takes him a very long time to react to anything going on around him. Or Guliani would be fine, he did nothing on 9-11 except pose for pictures because he was clever enough to locate his command center in a building that terrorist had attacked once already and repeatedly said they want to attack again.

What does global warming have to do with peace?
The prize panel clearly was looking at the social consequences of continued global warning. The award statement said climate change "may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the Earth's resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world's most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states."
Depleted water supplies and desertification already have escalated conflict among nomadic, herding and agricultural tribes in Africa. Flooding due to sea level rise in places like Bangladesh or Pacific islands could cause serious refugee problems - far worse, for example, than after the 2004 tsunami.
The Nobel Peace prize committee has expanded its scope beyond peacemaking and disarmament to issues involving social stability, human rights, democracy, poverty and natural resources. Last year's winner was Bangladeshi banker Muhammad Yunus, who grants small loans to the poor. In 2004, environmentalist Wangari Maathai won for an anti-erosion tree-planting effort in Kenya.

First...that is so previous...yet enable me sparkling it up for you besides... Al Gore by no skill suggested he "invented the internet"....he suggested.."we were very nearly inventing the internet as we went alongside". He did not in my opinion invent the internet. Al Gore become heavily in contact contained in the earliest degrees of creating and funding the advent of the internet. - truth.

Just wait until next year when Al Roker wins with a ROCKIN' weather report!
The Nobel people and the Oscar people just hate Bush.
Like most people who hate Bush they are petty little people.
And most run around parroting the latest slogan from the Moveon creeps. Mindless people with unoriginal thoughts and ideas. Someone is ALWAYS to blame for THEIR problems.

You're looking at the wrong Algore "accomplishment". You should be focusing on the romantic Algore. Remember that his romance with Tipper was the actual, genuine, 100% inspiration for the movie "Love Story". Don't forget the big KISS, which proves that Algore is the world's greatest lover. Therefore it's an easy conclusion that he is the rightful owner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Peace & Love, Man.
