Haha not much literal impac on the world .?? Let's forget Roald Dahl then and Saunders Lewis?? Aren't they important???. Also Dylan thomas as you all know. We invented the = in mathematics with out that sign tehre would be no purpose to any formula in the world (Is that still not enough) The highest mountain in the world is named after a Welshman (but let me guess that's not enough either. ) Ever heard of a million pound ?? Well the first ever million pound check was signed in wales!. I rest my case
What have the english to be proud of ???
INVADING EVERY COUNTRY KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE ROBBING THEIR HOMES LIVELIHOODS AND MONEY . (Sounds pretty much like the Nazi's to me don't you think?)
Our language we have that to be proud of we have everything welsh to be proud of even if it's a broken down railway station even if it's a closed down coal mine . We will still be proud and that's what makes us welsh. You may invade our country and deprive it and mock it . But you'll never change a welsh mans heart.
Cymru am byth .
Balchder Cymraeg yn ein Gwaed.

I'm not sure but they have beautiful singing voices. Tom Jones is welsh! I believe the other things they are famous for are their fluffy scrambled eggs, their great brewed drinks and their friendliness. I once worked with Welshman and he is a great Guy except he always had the same problem. His car would never start and it was through this problem that we became very good friends. By the way, I'm an Australian and I am proud that I am a friend of his!

I lived in Wales for 10 years and found their patriotism to be ill-founded. Apart from Dylan Thomas they have had little literary impact on the world. Nothing compared to Shakespeare, Chaucer or Dickens for example. Tom Jones and Bryn Shurvell are hardly the Beatles, Oasis, Queen, The Who, The Stones, Muse, Led Zep (need I go on?).
They have had no great philosophers or thinkers like Newton or Hawking etc.
Their economy is subsidised by England so devolution is impossible; they have no gross national product. Their national sport Rugby, was invented in England and they are now mostly beaten by the English when they meet.
"I'm proud to be Welsh" is a frequent cry, but as yet not one single Welsh person has been able to provide me with solid reasons why. I am willing to be proved wrong here, but the Scots with a glorious past of engineers and poets have more to brag about than the Welsh.
I am of the opinion that the Welsh have this form of jingoism hard-wired into them from birth to cover the fact they really have no cultural or scientific heritage to fall back on.
This is not an anti Welsh sentiment. I like them as a race, but have never understood their patriotism which seems to have such a hollow base.
I defy any Welsh person to list 10 great Welshmen/women who are internationally known which justifies their case.
Addendum:
To candy_craver79 (see below). The fact that you had to go to a site to search for famous Welsh people is telling in itself, and my criteria was "internationally known". Sad that their most famous actor in recent times, Sir Anthony Hopkins, changed his nationality to US!

The Welsh somehow maintained their itentity, and to some extent their language, while sharing a very small island with the English (and Scots). Their songs are beautiful, and their singing world renowned.
