Strange when women take advantage of men using the system I hear no woman demanding change within the system. Then its all talk about taking chances risks and not all women are like that.

in allof history people have gathered and stood up for change. alot of lives have been sacrificed for change around the world. and in all societies there have been plenty of people that were not doing the act that was being asked to be changed. but yes, for their own rights and protection they need to protest so that a new law is implemented.

thats right, not all saudis are like what this women are protesting about but at the same instances, in fact, a lot of instances there is a prevalences of women being abuse by men in saudi arabia and by this protest the west will be able to hear of such incidents and hope something should be done about it not only in this kingdom but the whole of the male dominated middle easterns countries.

No you should shut up.
Even if not all Saudi men are like that, they shouldn't be given the right to beat their wives. How f*cked up is that? What about the women with abusive husbands? The men can commit domestic violence against women and get away with it. Of course women are going to protest that!

Saudi Laws comes from Islamic Law. Islamic law protect women's right and forbid abusing women. If there are cases of women abused it is usually isolated incidences and happens as it happens in any country in the world.

It wouldn't even matter if ONE Saudi man was like that. No country should have a law permitting domestic abuse, and no woman should have to get over it.

i'd say the bottom line is ..... it's their culture from way way back, though there are saudi women thats already westernized in ways and manners but only acts that way outside the kingdom of king saud. in fact, the bedouin has a harsh way of dealing with their women who deviates from their cultural norm. thus id say its not a matter of shutting up or getting over it but bring back the the glorious day of the mohammedans of pre saud era.

i'm surprised at all the responses are EXCEPT from anton. they are all prejudiced and seem to know it all from the perspective of their cultures and religious beliefs.

let me tell you as well as everyone. ALL countries who are followers (glad i'm agnostic) of Islam allow such behavior though not that severely. their shariah (islamic law) and the Quran allows it.

According to the European Court for Human Rights, "Many democrats, and several official institutions in democratic countries are convinced that Sharia is incompatible with a democratic state. These incompatibilities have been clarified in several legal disputes."

And according to the Norwegian Institute of Human Rights, "The Court considers that sharia, which faithfully reflects the dogmas and divine rules laid down by religion, is stable and INVARIABLE. Principles such as pluralism in the political sphere or the constant evolution of PUBLIC FREEDOMS HAVE NO PLACE IN IT (bold face mine). […] It is difficult to declare one’s respect for democracy and human rights while at the same time supporting a regime based on sharia, which clearly diverges from Convention values, particularly with regard to its criminal law and criminal procedure, its rules on the legal status of women and the way it intervenes in all spheres of private and public life in accordance with religious precepts.

But what about the ones that are. And what is the recourse for a woman in and abusive situation.

I am sure if someone had the right to do that to you and you couldnt do a thing about it you would have a problem and wouldnt just shut up........moron!
