I know exactly what it is with spiders. Damned things bite me when I run into them or touch them, and even in my sleep!
Incidentally, I am not afraid in the least of tarantulas. They're great! Slow-moving, calm and not all freakishly fast like these damned wood spiders here. Good pets; I used to peddle them at a pet store. = )

Ive got 11 tarantulas but for some reason i freak when i see house spiders. I don't really see a tarantula like i do with normal spiders as they are big and furry but i hate the little skinny legged fast other spiders.
My husband has a pink foot Goliath spiderling who freaks me a bit at the moment as she just looks like a big house spider ( apart from the pink feet ) Its all down to the speed with me.

I'm not a big fan of spiders-they have too many knees for my liking and the freaky way that they stop moving and turn to look at you when you do that double take thing to confirm a sighting on the carpet really makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
I'm not so afraid that I can't (after a deep breath and with shaking hand) evict them from the property with the aid of a large glass and some card though-or with a long length of toilet roll for them to climb on before hanging them out of the bathroom window if they're in the bath!
As regards keeping one as a pet-ewwwgh, makes me shiver just thinking about it, lol.

I'm with you on this!! Spiders are brilliant.
I think people are scared, they're not faking. I mean, it's all because of the stories of them being venomous, and they're creepy crawlies.
One thing that aracnophobics should know is that a spider wont attack unless it's provoked. Same with most other things in nature (snakes too!!).
Spiders are so beautiful if you know what they're all about, so as a message to people out there, get better acquainted with them because you never know when they'll pop up in your living room.

Not the house spiders but anything that I can hear moving craps the life out of me! My boyfriend wanted a tarantula, he def wanted a spider anyway but then I moved in with him and brought my snake with me, so luckily he's now decided against it. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, let's just hope if you have a girlfriend/boyfriend then she/he likes them! And whatever you do, make sure the lid/door is closed!

i got used to them, when i worked as a nanny in Austria in a village my room was downstairs and the first time i freaked out when i saw a big thick legged spider
so i had to ask the man of the house to kill it for me
but after a while i thought i cant be calling him every time i see one
so i started murdering them myself
i got so used to seeing spiders it doesn't bother me anymore
but i still would'nt buy a tarantula for a pet...lol

Im not scared of spiders but i think some people wind themselves up thinking about them and when you pick some spiders up they jump in your hands thats what i dont like, but i held a trantula before and it was v.cool and not scary and really calm.
