My parents are from abroad but I was born and raised in England. I am so proud to be British and consider myself British. However, although most people are cool, I often find that people call my a foreigner and make me feel like I don't belong here. Why are people like that????

I was born here, went to Uni and now have a good job. I love this country and give a lot to it too...it's my home...why can't people accept that, although people like me might be a different colour, we are British too????

It is amazing the amount of ignorance that still exists in this country. Just remember that most of us consider you to be our friend and neighbour and don't even think about colour or race. When my son was at school he was into Gothic dressing and wore a huge chain around his neck. On one occasion people shouted abuse at him, and on another occasion a couple pointed and laughed at him. He was different. People like those are themselves insecure and inadequate.

Do you want the answer or do you want kind words to make you feel better?

The answer is that there are still bigoted people and it's just part of Britain's national culture - always has been, always will be - and the media sometimes even make a feature out of it.

In more recent times, there has been a lot of media attention on the Muslim community. I have no idea whether or not some or any of it is true, but stories about supermarket staff refusing to serve alcohol - or teachers refusing to remove the veil during lessons - all serve to create the impression of 'differentness' and lack of social integration. It is this perception of differentness that is the root cause of most of the prejudice. Brits don't like - or understand - people that look, sound, or behave differently to themselves. Perhaps it's a cold weather protestant island thing!

THIS IS THE ANSWER FOR YOU QUESTION ABOUT BEING ASHAMED TO BE WHITE.. (YOU TOOK IT DOWN) JUST WANTED TO SHARE THIS WITH YA!!!

OK LOOK I AM AFRICAN AMERICAN AND THIS STATEMENT IS A LITTLE WEIRD. OK LOOK, YEAH THERE WERE WHITE PEOPLE THAT HAVE DONE WRONG THINGS IN THE PAST. BUT YOU SHOULD NOT BE ASHAMED. AS A BLK PERSON I WOULD SAY THIS; THE MOST I WOULD WANT YOU TO DO IS TO RECOGNIZE AND BE AWARE. BLK PEOPLE IN GENERAL DON'T WANT WHITE PEOPLE TO BE ASHAMED OR FEEL GUILTY FOR THE PAST BUT WE WANT PEOPLE TO RECOGNIZE ALSO AND DON'T FORGET. SEE YOU ARE NEVER SUPPOSE TO FORGET BUT YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO FORGIVE. NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE BUT SOME PEOPLE THAT AREN'T WHITE FEEL THAT RACISMS DOESN'T EXIST AND IT NEVER DID OR SOME PEOPLE DESERVED IT AND ALL THAT JUNK. WE JUST WANT PEOPLE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT IS STILL HERE AND THAT, STILL IN SOCIETY A WHITE PERSON WILL SOMETIMES RECEIVED A JOB QUICKER THAN A BLK PERSON THAT IS MORE QUALIFIED THAN THE WHITE PERSON. WE WANT NON-BLK RACES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IN SCHOOL A LOT OF TEACHERS HAVE PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS OF HOW A BLK PERSON WILL ACT IN THERE CLASS AND HOW THERE WORK ETHIC WILL BE. I AM JUST SAYING AS A BLK PERSON I AM NOT MAD AT THIS B/C PEOPLE ARE GOING TO ALWAYS BE LIKE THIS NOT ALL PEOPLE BUT SOME , SO ALL YOU CAN DO IS EDUCATE AND MOVE ON.., BUT WHEN WE EDUCATE WE WANT THE NEXT PERSON WHITE BLK OR WHATEVER TO EDUCATE THE NEXT PERSON SO ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND UNDERSTANDING CAN AND WILL TAKE PLACE YOU , KNOW. SO GIRL DON'T BE ASHAMED EDUCATE YOURSELF AND MOVE ON... JUST REMEMBER TO TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED THAT'S ALL DON'T BE ASHAMED YOU DIDN'T DO IT!

Ahhh hun don't worry about those fools.

In the words of a great man:

"You can please some people some of the time"
"But you can't please all the people all of the time"

You are British and proud to be you are most welcome on these shores. Unfortunately these people are so dumb they can't distinguish between you and the hate filled immigrants that come here to tell us how much they hate us.
