What the hell is wrong with some people
If they were going to dump the baby they could have at least taken him to hospital
I dont buy into the whole ' post natal depression crap'
Its no excuse to dump a baby on a starngers doorstep and leave him out in the bloody cold
some people dont deserve to have kids

yahoo i never said I was an expert
the simple fact is the baby was the victim in this, he never asked to be born to a mother who will abandon him
Yes lets be thankful she didnt kill him, but does mean would shoud be thankful that she dumped him on a doorstep instead?
Depression is no excuse in this case, there were lots of options for her ( assuming that it WAS the mother who dumped him )
She didnt have to leave him to die

I agree with Ladybuggs, if that woman would have leave the baby in the hospital maybe she would have to answer to the people in there, obviously she would be arrested.
About post natal depression we all should shut up, unless you have it or you are a women and been close to it, my wife had and sometimes you can feel a bit coming back because it takes time.
There is no excuse to hurt a baby like that, but maybe she had an excuse to protect the baby's life so she had to stay away from him, should be really hard either way.
We just don't know the reasons, for me there is no excuse but we don't know what's behind that.
Have a star, important question.

In the US we have something called the safe haven law now. Mothers are allowed to drop their baby off at certain places like a hospital, firestation, police station legally. Each of the 47 states that adopted the safe haven laws have different rules that apply. I am glad this baby was found safely. At least the mother did not use post partum depression as an excuse to kill it as some do. Someone asked a question the other day about giving DNA at birth or fingerprinting babies. In a case like this you could see how it would benefit. If this happened in the US the mother would be brought up on abandonment charges if she was located because she did not use the safe haven law. It is a shame but again we can be thankful she did not try to take her childs life.

You cannot judge what the mother has gone through, no one can. She may have been raped or abused, she could be a young teenager who was too frightened to tell someone she was pregnant. She could have a condition called puerperal psychosis which can cause a woman who has given birth to believe that the baby that has been born is not hers and that she is still pregnant. I don't understand your statement that you don't buy into the whole postnatal depression crap, but yet you go on to state that you have suffered from it. So have I and I deal with women suffering from it every day in my line of work, but I don't know what each individual is going through because it afeects everyone differently and to different degrees. It is absolutely tragic that this young girl/woman felt that she had no other option but to abandon her baby. Chances are that she probably kept her pregnancy hidden from her family and from professionals or maybe she didn't realise she was pregnant (it can happen, often with young girls) and it has scared her to death that she has given birth. People often do irrational things because they are scared or they have no one to support them. Maybe what this girl needs is a little understanding.

I feel very sorry for the mother. She must have been in an absolute desperate state of mind to have done it.
You dont know what shes been going through, maybe she is young and her parents didnt know and she felt she had no one to turn to.Maybe the father is a violent thug and she felt it was best for the baby to get it away from him. There are countless other things it could have been, but that poor mother must now be feeling suicidal,so please dont judge her.
Yes I agree with that ,but like I said we dont know the circumstances, she may not have had access to anything to wrap the baby in,we dont know where she was when she gave birth,
And for people to say "ive suffered from post natal depression and thats no excuse",shame on you.
This poor girl/woman may have had no family,or friends to support her.Post natal depression can affect people in many different ways, because you have suffered does not make you an expert.
The mother is also a victim and I hope she gets all the help she so desperately needs.

It's really sad.
I can't imagine how a woman who had carried the child for 9 months and given birth to it could possibly abandon it on a doorstep at just hours old - I suspect there is more to the story than we know.
Poor little mite.

Post natal depression can take you out of your mind, you shouldn't judge others too harshly if you haven't walked in their shoes. The mother probably thought she was doing the right thing leaving him/her on a doorstep mid-morning. It could have been worse, she could have dumped him/her in a river, bin or anywhere it wouldn't have been discovered. Have some humanity.

Its horrific, i know, but you need to realise that no mother in the right frame of mind would do it. Invariably, the mother in such cases, is trapped physically, emotionally & has no other recourse. Yes, she could have at least wrapped him up but only if you've walked in her shoes for a day, can you judge her.
i can bet my last penny, she regrets it & did it for the child's best interests. Visit any local orphanage & check out babies being abandoned...some mothers visit later & their stories will break your heart.

It is horrific, but the point is that she left him somewhere he would be found, not in some back alley or in a bin as reported before.
It might be a young girl who's done this with nobody to turn to.
