Why do Paedo priests still get labelled as gay, doesn't the world know the difference.?

Kiefer H you cannot spell, the correct spelling is 'paedophile', it comes from Greek, 'paedo' child, 'phyllae' to love and is in
fact an oxymoron, as the word correctly translated is lover of children, and therefore is probably in way that we use the word wrong for obvious reasons.

Then again I would guess that you come from the US and where most people cannot spell basic English words, so those that come from Greek would be a complete mystery.

As for the question itself, I think that the media does deliberately label molesters of boys as gay, as this reinforces the stereotype that the right wing press in the UK at least wants to prove, all gay men are molesters of boys.

Obviously, this is not true, can be proven as such, and if you look at the figures there are many straight men who identify themselves as straight and would not attempt to have sex with an adult gay man, often married, that molest boys.

The thing with the priesthood is that in certain countries and certain religions becoming a priest has long been a way of hiding one's sexuality, going as far as appointing the male partner as part of the church staff.

This also means that the child molester is often in a position of power, he, and sometimes she, it does happen, can work within the church system, identify the priests and other gays employed there in and use them as a 'shield' or even go as far as to blackmail them into silence when an incident involving the underage people arises.

Therefore, when the proverbial sht hits the fan there is also a fall out that exposes 'innocent' gay staff within the Church system.

The end result is that the press can then justify using 'gay' and 'paedo' in the same sentence.

As far as the world is concerned the vast majority do not see a difference, as most of the world sees being gay as a perversion, one only has to see the strong views that come to the fore in here.

In spite of the questioners ignorance on the subject the question does bring up an important point. Homosexuality and paedophilia can be very strong compulsions which some people are born with. So given the opportunity they will commit these sexual acts against children even though they know it is wrong. So punishment while it satisfies society's desire to do something about these people is not necessarily the solution. I think more effort could be made into understanding the reasons why these people act the way they do and try to develop strategies to deal with the situations so at the prevent them re offending and if possible stop them offending in the first place.

Edit: Oh, THAT'S paedo. Well the reason why pedophiliac priests get labelled as gay, is usually because they're caught with small boys, and not small girls. If they were caught with small girls, then they could be considered straight, or if caught with both, could be considered bi. The reason why we say this is because of the gender they play with.

Firstly paedophiles are not in the same category as gay people and it is wrong to suggest otherwise.
Gay people do not usually abuse children, male or female paedophiles do.
Paedophilia is all about controlling children specifically for the purpose of having sex and power over their young victims and yes there are stupid homophobic idiots out there who label gay people as paedophiles.
Gay people as you are aware are simply people who prefer partners of the same sex,there is no control urges or other traits shown by child sex offenders.

I agree with you, and my opinion is that if a male priest is attracted to men he is gay, if he's attracted to boys he's a paedophile. It's a fact that 95% of paedophiles are heterosexual.

Because they almost always molest young boys. I totally agree that the two are NOT related in the rest of life, but sadly religious paedopiles do seem to target boys, and I suppose that does make them gay (although the association is unfairly pejorative)
