i have a yamaha tzr 250, a year ago i got its engine fixed, engine is ok now i think but the problem is, if i dont apply gas the engine is going to die, the mechanic told me that its ok, i have no problem with it since i got used to it but its very uncomfortable because i cant get take my hands of the gas and i drive 18km everyday with traffic n everything, what should i adjust?

You need to adjust the idle speed. This is something very basic and easy to do.

Follow the throttle cable and look for a screw or thumb screw (usually made of plastic). The thumb screw are usually made to be turned by hand.

As you turn the wrist (throttle), look at the linkage on the engine / carb. The idle speed control is designed to keep the throttle slightly open when you take your hands off.

Its getting too much air, you need to apply throttle to keep the air/fuel mix right. You can adj. the air screw on the carb(s) but I think your problem lies with a bad gasket which may be why your mech. says not to worry


If the engine is in fact lean turning up the idle would be like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. Running it lean for a prolonged period of time will cause irreversible damage

It's not "OK".
Have it tuned by another mechanic.
Most bikes have a 'throttle stop` that limits
how low the setting can go. Adjust this till
your engine idles normally when warm.

I would adjust the throttle linkage.This would give you an idle.

Don't have an answder for but I do know you need to find another mechanic. The one you took it to is completely clueless.
