Hang on the cops picked up some people and charged them under the new anti-terrorism laws. Normally they would charge them under some other law. They are probably activists but so far from what I've seen in the news there is no evidence that statements intercepted on phones like "I am going to be trained as a terrorist" is anything but b**sh**t . My country used to believe in free speech apparently not anymore. And what is the best way to create a real insurgency - repress people an lock them up for doing nothing maybe?

It was considered that a few people were engaging in action which could have led to some from of attack. Two "training camps" which had allegedly been used by 10 people, were searched. 17 people have been arrested and held on charges relating to the possession of illegal weapons, 2 molitov cocktails and a napalm bomb.
Other charges may follow:
The anti terror operation continues today and there are reports of another armed raid in Waikaremoana in the Ureweras.
Police say they are not ruling out further arrests after yesterday's swoop recovered illegal firearms and details of guerrilla style training camps. Questions are being raised over the extent of police raids. Police are continuing their operation as questions are raised about the scope of the raids.
17 people have been arrested around the country and Police Assistant Deputy Commissioner John White says he is not ruling out further arrests. Criminologist Michael Rowe says it is unusual for such a diverse range of activists to be targeted.
One resident of a Wellington house raided yesterday says there were no guns on the property. John Minto from global peace and justice Auckland says a committee is being formed to support arrested activists. He says if the police have legitimate cases under the firearms act, they should be dealt with accordingly but any talk of terrorism charges will not go anywhere.
A meeting is being held tonight at a raided Wellington property, to quote "discuss a reaction".
Maori activist Tame Iti is set to appear in court this afternoon.
He is facing charges of possessing firearms and Molotov cocktails. He is in custody right now but is due back in the Rotorua District Court this afternoon.

Yes, I heard this news on TV but the terrorism news has become routine so has lost all the significance. Here in India we have bomb-blast almost every other day in one town or the other and people are dying in scores. So far thousands of people have died and every single blast has pointed towards Islamic terrorism.
However, the present federal government in India, due to vote-bank politics, pushes all such cases under the carpet denying to accept that they are the activities of Islamic terrorists.
The entire world is suffering but Muslim leaders are reluctant to do any thing about it thus tacitly encouraging such terrorist acts.
May God save us from this insanity.
