no one will abort a fetus after 12 weeks, that will be a murder.
Medically it's not possible to remove one of the twin babies from the womb, it's just ridiculous......It can only happen in a movie:)

Yes it is possible to have one of the twins aborted and the other one still live. I have a friend who was pregnant at 17 and she had an abortion, because her parents had already told her if she became pregnant they would kick her out of their house. When she kept having symptoms of pregnancy after the abortion, it really scared her. So she went to the doctor, and apparently she had been pregnant with twins, and when she had the abortion only one baby was aborted. I'm not sure this could happen at 23 weeks though. That is pretty far along. I also have a friend who had been trying to have children for years, and she just kept having miscarriages. She finally found out she was pregnant with triplets. I think it was about 22 weeks, maybe a little less or more, into her pregnancy when something went wrong. The only way to save her and two of the babies, was to abort one of the triplets. She said it was one of the hardest things she has ever had to do, and there was still a chance that she could still lose the other babies and her own life. Miraculously the procedure went fine. Unfortunately, when she was at 40 weeks and she delivered the twins, the umbilical cord was around both of their necks, and she lost them both. About 2 years later, she adopted a little girl from Guatemala. I hope this helps. Have a great day.

23 weeks is more then half way through the pregnancy. I don't know of a doctor that would abort a fetus in the second trimester. I believe that the doctor could get in trouble if they terminated a pregnancy that was that far along. Also why would they leave one fetus if she was having an abortion. She obviously didn't want the baby so they would abort both babies.

there are times when a woman has several fetus in her and for her life and the other babies life the doctor chooses to eliminate the least viable babies. Some women don't want this because they feel that they will be killing their babies.
It is highly unlikely that a doctor would terminate one baby and leave in another unless the doctor knew that this one baby was disfigured or lacking of brain etc things like that.

It sounds like she feels the loss of the child that she chose to terminate. Personality I have not met one woman who is glad that they had an abortion.

Ask your friend WHY this baby was aborted. And why did they choose to let one baby live. I have a feeling she is in denial and is depressed with the loss of her child. If she indeed had twins I bet she would of told you that earlier.

I think she needs some counseling

Why did she abort the first one?

Twins come in either fraternal or identical. Fraternal twins occur when 2 separet eggs hanve been fetilized, therfor they each have thier own plactena and amniotic fluid. Indetical can either be where the 1 egg has become fertilized and the egg splits into 2 halves correctly, giving each baby a independant placenta and aminotic fluid and sac etc. When the egg splits but not all the way, often both babies share the 1 placenta and amniotic fluid and sac etc.

At 23 weeks you should be able to determine what type of twins they are. And whether it is possible or not to abort either or child.

In the UK medical professionals will abort a baby up to the age of 24weeks if there is a severe medical abnormality with the baby or if it is risking the mothers life.
I have heard of one twin being aborted & the other surviving or more that one twin dies in the womb & is removed in order for the other twin to survive but if the mother has had all of her scans ie 12week & 22week then she would have known ages ago that she was carrying twins.
You can have terminations at hospital its if you pay privately you go to a clinic.
Is she saying that the other baby is very small due to the other twin receiving all the nutrients or that it is a younger foetus? I don't believe you can get preg whilst preg.

23 weeks seems a lot for anyone to abort a baby whether it be a hospital or clinic ???

Does she want the remaining baby should she have the choice as it could be okay, has she had any clotting since the termination ? So many questions from your question really, ge ther to check herself out at her doctors is best advice

Not likely although miracles can happen. What a shame your friend must be going thru turmoil. takecare and godbless i will say a prayer for you and your friend and the little baby i hope the baby survives.xxxxxxx

To some of you ignorant ppl out there. I am a roman catholic and do not believe in abortion. It is wrong to accuse the girl of murder !! we do not not the reason behind it, She may have had to to save the other child, I know its in gods hands, but it is not up to us, you couls show a bit o compassion towards the girls tragedy. Also you can have an abortion at hospital on the nhs you do not have to go to an abortion clinic either !!

i highly doubt that other baby would survive, t depends on how the other one was removed..?

also u CAN have an abortion in a hospital, most of them are carried out in a hospital under a general anesthetic, some are done by the woman takingt a tablet this is also done in a hospital, only private abortions are done in an abortion clinic.

hope this helps

23 weeks is alot the fetus has already become a person it is already a baby and why would she kill one and leave the other whats the point. i have heard of woman who do get abortion while with twins and one survives. but i dont know if it is really true. it is very dangerous to have abortion at a late stage. and that another may or may not survive its all up to god.

I heard of this sort of thing before and it's possible that the twin fetus could survive if he/she is still in utero. How does your friend know that she had twins? Can she feel the second fetus kicking?
