If the federation(Star Trek)were at war with the Empire(Star Wars) who would win? Please answer based on technology. Most people rekon that because of the 'force' the empire would win. but I think that this is a copout?

Thats a tough question. We do not really know how many warships that the Federation has at its disposal. The Empire, however, we know that they have TONS of Star Destroyers and at least one Super Star Destroyer. I would have to say, that advanced technology or not, the Federation would have its hands full. I just think that they would be overwhelmed by the empire. Not to mention the Tie Fighters and Bombers. I have never seen anything that the Federation has that could counter them. My vote goes to the Empire.

Well most will probably say the Empire but I must disagree.
Although its partly because I'm a Trekkie that's not all.
The empire has a lot of ships and the death star(if it wasn't blown up again)
The Federation has a massive armada of battleships, they have allies on hundreds of planets from countless galaxies across the universe each with its own superior force.(some more than both the federation and empire)
Also the Federation actually hides their weak spots unlike the empire,I mean come on the death star had its only weak spot right in the open so Luke could just fly by and launch his torpedo then BOOOM!!!!.
One last thing although I am sure I am missing something.
If the Force were brought into play just remember that Admiral Janeway and Captain Picard can ask the Q for help and they can wipe both sides from existence by thinking about it so Federation will win.
Oh and I may be wrong but I dont think the empire has ships of any kind with the ability to travel and warp 9.9. I may be wrong though.

ok leaving the force out of the equation heres what I think:

1) star wars had more manuverable jets and the fact that their battle ships could drop like 5000 tie fighters or b/x/a/y - wings out of their compartments itd be a massacre of star trek.
The klingons would have an upper hand since they have cloaking but honestly how long would that last in a full on war?
2) ground forces - "always aim for red" if the star trek guys teleported on to lets say the Senate theird be a battle of light sabers and guns vs phasers....you do the math
3) the clothing....ok how many people SERIOUSLY would rather have a cloak (jedi) or a button up silk shirt to battle in? (star trek)? (I can here it know coming from the locker room on the Enterprise - NO its YOUR TURN to wear the red shirt I wore it last week!!!)

Since TIE Fighters and X Wings always seem to go down with one hit, I'll go with The Federation simply because their shields actually work.

Simple-Hans Solo blew up the death star in the first movie, they are weaponless.(acutally the last, wasn't it) and I just don't think you can beat Jim & crew even if they are so much slower but then that goes to the technology available at the time the series was made. You can't beat heart with weapons.
