Having gone through the rigours of getting permanent residency in Great Britain twice, it is pretty damn discouraging to see nonresident Americans swanning around.....living it up in grand flats.....whilst I almost cannot afford to exercise my right of residency.

I say almost because unless I can land a Council flat or something within a housing trust I will not be able to continue to live in London.

I am not amongst those from the States who on big salaries are enjoying the Lambeth walk. I earn piecemeal (so there Juliette Binoche); and not very much piecemeal. AND I ONLY earn piecemeal when the crows stop foraging.

So you add it up.

Disgusting!

Okay we`re not all key workers. But shouldn`t the Mayor underwrite housing for all Londoners (and I MEAN Londoners) and also keep the devellopers at bay? Otherwise it`ll all be housing for the overseas visitors (from the Emirates. America, China, etc)

Unfortunately we as a nation have not been building enough housing for the last 20 years or so, especially we have not been building enough affordable (council/ housing association) housing so today housing is too expensive. As we live in a free market economy the housing goes to those who can pay the most.

You are welcome to apply to your local authority to go on the housing waiting list but you should expect to wait several years unless you are in housing need and therefore entitled to accommodation under the terms of the homelessness legislation.

Taking your last point I would say that we all are key workers - cities are dependent upon all workers for prosperity. Housing should be allocate don the basis of housing need not profession.

Sad to say..the other comments are so true. Your attitude is exactly what we detest the most about immigrants arriving and expecting the pavement to be paved in gold for them.

Unfortunately your attitude will always stop you from progressing in the UK. Go back to your home nation wherever this might be you will at least have an opportunity in keeping with your own experiences.

It's about to get a lot tougher in the UK for both its nationals and everyone else whatever their status might be.

Sincerely...don't mean or wish to be rude to you either. Make your return sooner rather than later, Britain is not for you.

Best of good fortune to you...

OK, I've read your rant but I'm still trying to find a question amongst the drivel.

FYI most of the non-resident Yanks you see "swanning around" are Forces and their families. They hardly live in "grand flats" on their pay, certainly not in London.

I've got news for you, I was born and brought up in London, but I couldn't afford to live there either. I just get on with my life where I can live well and be happy and safe. Your attitude seems to be that the world owes you a living - I'm afraid you won't go far here with that attitude.

Why should I as a rate payer who has spent all his working life struggling to buy a house in London, subsidise you who have just come over here and think we owe you a living?
Because Ken gets all his money from the likes of ME.

Hi from Scotland - I don't mean to be rude but if you don't like it go back to your own country and leave houses and jobs for British people.
