its funny you ask this question.... I moved to southern colorado about 5 years ago and I noticed a accent right away. I lived in a town called Pueblo and it seemed like people who lived there sounded like they couldnt pronounce the name Pueblo right. It sounded like they were saying " Pl-yell-blo." And when ever they say the word "bag" it sounded like "b-ai-g" . I respect the place but growing up in texas it was new to me and people said I talked with a little twaing in my accent as well.(although i strongly disagree with that!) My husband and I still play around and and say " would you like a b-ai-g with your grocieries"

Yes, mostly it is dependent on whether they grew up listening to radio and TV, thus speaking General American, or working and listening to their hispanic and indian neighbors.
