My friends & I (group of 8) plan to go to Tagaytay this weekend. This would be the first time for each of us to plan a trip on our own. We are all work-aholics so we never find the time. Hey, better late than never right? & we think that tagaytay is perfect for us due to its location.

So here's the deal, we don't know much about Tagaytay, we don't intend to stay overnight, (maybe next tym) & we plan to go by public transport.

so far:

*we plan to ride a bus @ Baclaran @ around 8am
*the only places in our itinerary right now is to visit the pink sisters & caleruega church.
*we've heard of sailing the lake, park in the sky, & other destinations (tips pls)
*we still have no idea where to eat lunch

Pls. give us tips on where to go & things to do. Thanks

If you are riding public transportation, you must find your way into a bus that goes to Nasugbu, Batangas. Get off at the junction in Tagaytay where Ninoy Aquino proudly stands.

There would be public transport at the junction. Go to PICNIC GROVE. That will give you a good panoramic view of the lake and volcano. There is a restaurant inside PICNIC Grove where you can have lunch. Or turo-turo just outside of the gate of Picnic Grove.

If you go further ahead, you will get to Peoples'Park (Palace in the Sky). Thsi was the structure being built by Imelda whan Reagan was planning to visit. Construction was stopped when Manila was chaotic after Ninoy's assassination.

If you go back to the junction, you could move on, southwards, to the direction of Batangas. If I were you, I would hike because you could, at some point, sit down for coffee at Starbucks. or even have siomai by the ridge. There is a cluster of restaurants that include even, would you believe it, Hen Lin? The view here is fantastic. Depending on your final schedule, this is also a good lunch area.

Or have breakfast, snacks, or lunch at "Breakfast at Antonio's".

You should also go to BAG OF BEANS, a small store on the right side after the Mendez junction. They have excellent coffee, and meat pies (original English style meat pies).

To go down to the lake is no problem. You will be accosted at every turn by men carrying signs that say "BOAT RIDE". You can then go down to Talisay on a tricycle for a trip to Volcano Island.

I am just not sure how you can pack these things in one day and still enjoy the trip. I would strongly suggest you stay overnight.

Josephine has a great breakfast buffet spread (P250 per person...i think) and a nice view to boot. Beside that is Leslie's which has great Bulalo and baked mussels. Near that is Cliffhouse..its a nice place where you could hang out and watch the sunset (parking is around P100). There are some nice swanky places to eat there if you're not on a tight budget.

I agree, don't miss the volcano ride..it's a great experience. Before you go home, swing by Good Shepherd for some bottles of ube, angel cookies and marzapan de pili. you could bring them back as pasalubong or buy them for yourself. They also have halo-halo in a box..that's a great mid-afternoon snack.

Have fun!

Shirley has some very good suggestions for you. I have now lived in Luzon for 7 years, and it's safe (some communist trouble every now and then but they're only after "taxes"). Haven't been in other places, but would avoid Mindanao (with exception of a couple of places like Davao) like the plague. Malaysia is one of the few places in Asia which I haven't visited, and seems interesting. More info: The first time I was here in '98 with a Taiwanese tour. When in Manila, the tour guide told us it is a safe city, but after dark to walk around in pairs. Be warned.

there are lots of places to eat at tagaytay, specially at the area where you can see the taal lake(sorry, forgot the name of the road),there are lots of restaurants and nice view, too. You can also visit their tagaytay zoo,you can ask the jeepney drivers at tagaytay...you can also enjoy food tripping..bring a jacket, umbrella coz it tends to rain at some part of tagaytay in the afternoon specially if you're going to park in the sky

dude the first thing you should do is throw out your schedule..you want to go there so just go there and do all that just happens on the way there and back...you can get a guide and all of that super cheap (speak the lang, know the area, and most of all keeps you and your friends safe)...i personally have travelled to so many places on these islands with my filipina wife..we tried to plan for our first trip to Boracay but it is just easier not too..no matter where you go there will be excellent places to eat...hotels..there is always someone that is so eager to help you...that is what is great about this country the ppl...go to 5star or victory bus lines and tell them were you want to go or get a taxi from your hotel...just remember man you arent at work ...your on a vacation..so dont treat it like work...if you know what i mean...congrats to ya for getting off the tourist trap route though..haha..for things to do...well there is always something to do no matter were you are...a couple of tips would be to head up to Subic Bay (awesome marine life and safari zoo..dont know if the zoo is fully going now though)..and there is a hotel were the only way to get there is by boat...or go to Bagiou...just too much
