I also like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants book series. I've only the first two books but I've been wanting to read the third one.
Yes A Walk to Remember the book and the movie made me cry.

I know this is a bit boring but even as an adult the Harry Potter series are pretty awesome books. Mind you maybe I am just an Aussie wishing I was in England/Scotland and had been to boarding school.
On a more serious note I also like the Jodi Piccoult books. In particular 'My sister's keeper'. They are very topical and well written and keep you interested the whole way through.
I am a definite fan of books before movies. I am yet to see a movie really do a book justice.

Fave author is Mark Twain (The American Shakespeare. Writing on several levels incorporating the best and worst of humanity. ) closely followed by Henry Miller - the indomitable spirit that fears nothings and embraces everything, Shakespeare (His later plays haven't been as popular as his early ones, but that will change for they are illuminating) and occasionally Ernest Hemmingway(master short story writer of reality)
Annie Proux wrote a good novel "Shipping News" but its a bit topical - the situation of the modern man and woman. Can't get through most modern authors - too preachy, prosey or gossipy. Forign authors seem to be the most dynamic today.

Probably any of the Pern Books by Ann McCaffrey...purely mechanical science-fantasy...which means suspension of belief or disbelief...which means escapism, conscience clear!!!
And any historical's on Eliz. I , Anne Boleyn., the Plantagenet's, but my favourite is Lady Jane Grey...so darned close!!! Well, new system student, and a quick one, I bet!
Also, I am a fan of quantum physics...well within reason (pun intended)...completely illuminated the scripture for me "For, they are all living, to him" But, caveat emptor!!!
