You are thinking of the Electoral College.

Electorates are chosen from each state, the number is based upon population of the state, to virtually represent their respective constituents in the electoral college process. There are 538 voters total.

Since our form of government is a Republic, not a Democracy, the president is elected by the electoral college, or virtual representation, as opposed to the Popular vote.

Provisions for the mechanics of presidential elections were established by Article Two, Section One, of the United States Constitution.

The 12th Amendment provided that each Elector vote separately for president and vice president.

Today, the mechanics of the presidential election are administered by the National Archives and Records Administration via its Office of the Federal Register.

Is there Democracy in AMerica, yes, and there is democracy in every country that exist. Is America A Democracy; no!!!

We are a Republic and it is impractical to have a Democracy for a country as large as America. America is a Republic.

The Senate has very little to do with electing Bush. The last election, the majority of the people prefered Bush over Kerry. As for the Gore Bush election, Bush won according to the rules. Gore may have the majority of the vote, but he knew the rules and did not complain about it until he lost. WHat makes a great country is consistency of the ruling. Gore tries to cheat by finding new ways to count the votes until the numbers show he won. THat is an inappropriate way to handle numbers.(Simple ethics and stattistic lessons)

I know alot of people are mad, and I hate Bush. THis is not the way to look at it though. We can not retroactively change the rules to put people in that we wanted. THat is one of the reason I hate Bush. He feels that he can bend the rules to what ever he feels is right. To make a great nation, we need to have a rule that applies to all and is fairly rigid.

PS it's the electoral college you are thinking of, and my father was asked to be a member once.

People must be given the right to vote for their President and not the electoral college.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100% . THE PERSON WHO WINS , SHOULD DO SO BY HAVING THE MOST VOTES ; THE VOTES THAT CAME DIRECTLY FROM THE LIKES OF YOU AND I.
