OK!!!!
Maria has twice as much money as Paul
M= 2 P ................................(1)
Paul has $8 more than Rocky
P= R + 8 ..............................(2)
Paul has $8 more than Rocky
M+P+R = 104.......................(3)

FIRST WE HAVE TO MAKE EQUATION NO 3 IN TERM OF ONE VALUABLE LET IT BE ((R))

by substitution of eq 2 in eq 1
M= 2 * (R+8)
= 2R + 16 .............(4)

lets go to eq 3 again
M+P+R = 104.......................(3)
(2R+16)+(R+8)+R = 104
4R + 24 = 104
4R = 80
R = 20 ...... SO Rocky has $20

in eq. 2
P= R + 8 ..............................(2)
P = 20 + 8 = 28 SO Paul has $28

in eq 4
M = 2R + 16 .............(4)
M = 2*20+ 16 = 56 SO Maria has $56

best of luck

Let M be the amount Maria has.
Let P be the amount Paul has.
Let R be the amount Rocky has.

M = 2P
P = R + 8
M + P + R = 104

Now substitute for M in the last equation:
2P + P + R = 104
3P + R = 104

Do the same with substituting P into this new equation:
3(R + 8) + R = 104
3R + 24 + R = 104
4R + 24 = 104
4R = 80
R = 20

Now work backwards to solve the other values.
P = R + 8
P = (20) + 8
P = 28

M = 2P
M = 2(28)
M = 56

So Maria has $56, Paul has $28, Rocky has $20.
Together they have $104.

M = 2 P . . . equation 1 . . .. substitute this to equation 3
P = R + 8 equation 2 . .. . substitute to equation 4
M + P + R = 104 equation 3
2P + P + R = 104
3P + R = 104 equation 4
3(R + 8) + R = 104
3 R + 24 + R = 104
4 R = 104 - 24 = 80
4R = 80
R = 20
P = R + 8 = 20+8 = 28
M = 2 P = 2(28) = 56

Paul = $28 . .. Maria = $56 . . .. Rocky = $20

maria = m, paul= p, rocky=r
m=2p
p=r+8 ==> r=p-8
m+r+p=104
(2p)+p+(p-8)=104
4p-8=104
4p=104+8=112 ==> p=112/4 ==> p=28
m=2p=2*28=56
r=p-8=28-8=20

x = Maria's money, 1/2x = Paul's, 1/2x - $8.00 = Rocky's

Finding Maria's money:
x + 1/2x + 1/2x - $8.00 = $104.00
2x = $112.00
x = $56.00

Paul's money:
= $56.00/2
= $28.00

Rocky's money:
= ($56.00/2) - $8.00
= $28.00 - $8.00
= $20.00

Answer: Maria has $56.00; Paul, $28.00; Rocky, $20.00

Proof (together they have $104.00):
= $56.00 + $28.00 + $20.00
= $104.00
