No. These fight songs are used in many different places, like i heard the USC fight song on a commercial, and they are used on the colege football games. So, no im sure they are not copyright.

they have the same protections as any other song. however glee club music and college songs were quite popular before the 1920's when many colleges established their school songs. Songs written in the mid20s and later are more likely to have copyright unless for some reason the original composer deliberately placed them in public domain. Some newer fight songs use old melodies (even stolen from other schools) so they could be public domain if performed without the words.
