In recent years? I think because they released Jeff Garcia and traded T.O. Dennis Erickson is simply a college coach and that started the 49ers downfall. Although, you guys have something going with Mike Nolan, Frank Gore, and that good defense of the Niners. I heard they signed Nate Clements and Michael Lewis to add to their secondary. Also Patrick Willis is doing Phenominal!!! I think your Offensive Coordinator needs to swich. When Norv Turner left Alex Smith lost his third straight O.C in 3 years! And he keeps getting different wide outs every year. I think if the 49ers can get CHEMISTRY throughout their team, they will win the weak NFC West. Cheers!

They got screwed when San Diego lured Norv Turner away so late in the offseason. Now they're stuck with an offensive coordinator that doesn't know what he's doing. The previous years the defense was short on talented players.

They don't want to pay for any talent or coaching. It all began when they didn't resign Garcia and T.O. and they never even attempted to replace either of them. The list goes on and on. Frank Gore was never expected to put up the season like he had last year. It was sort of a fluke. I'm sure they won't resign him either.
They're cheap and they don't care about their team. Plain and simple.

They are still indebted to the players of the past. They don't have the money to get good players nowdays. There was a story about this last year. It will take years for SF to get back on their feet.
