Some people have told me that Halloween is the devil's holiday, most of these people were part of some Christian group (Catholicism, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.). To them, dressing up in a costume or giving out candy on Halloween is completely wrong, along with watching scary movies and carving pumpkins.

Some of the Christians told me that when people participate in Halloween by dressing up in costumes, wearing masks, giving out candy, etc., they said that even though they are doing it just for fun they said that by doing all these things causes curiosity that can lead to other things like trying to communicate with spirits, committing other sins, and eventually defecting from their Christian faith. They said Halloween is displeasing to God, they said participating in Halloween brings joy and pleasure to Satan.

THIS ENTRY IS IN REGARDS TO THE BEST ANSWER I HAVE CHOSEN. I am using this space here because there is not enough room for me to write everything in the space they give you below the best answer.
I chose this as the best answer because it gives the most facts, but "ladyq" is right about how we need to put things in perspective. It is clearly obvious that Jehovah's Witnesses consider any other religions, beliefs, or practices outside of their own to be pagan, and I am well aware that they blame the world's problems on Satan, claiming that 1st degree murder, children starving, and the Harry Potter books are all causes and works of the devil.
It is very logical to understand that the Christian bible was manufactured in the same fashion as Stephen King's novels, minus the tenacious lawyers and modern printing processes. Anyone who says otherwise is just using the power of denial to subscribe to their religion's superstitious beliefs. (continued below)

Faith in a religion and the power of denial are the same thing, don't try to reinvent the wheel during your time on this planet. The authors of religions are the ones who tell the Jehovah's Witnesses not to give blood or accept transfusions, they also tell Catholics not to eat meat on Fridays or use prophylactics, and I once knew a Jewish guy who couldn't eat cheeseburgers.
One thing that I always thought could be better is the fact that most people subscribe to a religion because they are trying to "save" themselves. They follow the rules of the religion because if they don't they won't see the new paradise or get into heaven. The religions have very idealistic rules, they tell you not to steal, be respectful to your parents, etc., the point is, is that I always thought people should do the right thing because it's simply the right thing to do, not because your religion tells you that it's necessary to do so. If you look at it that way, then (continued below)

religion is nothing more than spiritual employment. Prostitutes sellout their bodies and drug dealers distribute narcotics all for a payoff. If someone mentally and physically indulges in a religion because the payoff is getting into heaven or some other afterlife then what does that make that person? Over the years I have been approached by several Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons trying to market their religion. The only thing that I thought was a problem was the arrogance they carried with their beliefs, to them anyone who didn't join in on what they were doing was a complete barbaric fool who's next stop was eternal sleep or swimming in liquid hot magma.
Every being in the universe knows right from wrong. If people need their bible and their Christ to tell them what to do and what not to do including celebrating Halloween, then there is something terribly wrong with our species.

Oh, good gracious! I do wish people would lighten up a bit! I am a Christian but I enjoy seeing little ones dress up and "trick or treat" on Halloween. The word means Hallowed Evening just before November 1 which is All Saints Day. There's nothing satanic about that. Carving pumpkins. Hayrides in the moonlight; roasting marshmallows over bonfires; bobbing for apples. Telling ghost stories. Halloween is what you make it.

No, I am a Christian and every Halloween I like to carve pumpkins and dress up and everything! Yes, Halloween was created as an "evil' sort of Holiday. People would carve pumpkins and put them outside to scare evil spirits away. But it has changed from whatever that tribe was to how it is now, a fun Holiday. God likes to see people having fun, just not the whole creepy and scary kind of thing. : )

Im a JW, hopefullyi can help.
We don't take part in these things because halloween originates with the pagens (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween) and pagens were very much into worship that christians are against. I know and understand that getting into a funny or gorry costume, giving children candy (haha its funny saying 'candy', we say 'sweets' in the UK) is not wrong but when practised on halloween you are practising a pagan tradition. it doesn't mean you are worshipping the devil but its what it signifies. In Gods eyes if you are doing something that many peope consider to be un-Godly then it isn't showing a lot of respect.
I watch scary movies often, as long as it isn't demonic then its fine.
Hope this helped!

Why are you listening to people telling you things...many churches hold halloween parties...Jehovah's Witneses also don't celebrate birthdays or Christmas or Easter...so whatever they tell you about halloween...put it in perspective...I'm Catholic and our church has halloween and said it is making fun of the devil...ha ha we can act scary (although I prefer the cute costumes) the scary ones are appropriate...it was put on a pagen holiday to counteract that holiday...some of those things were taken as a way to get them to become christian...just like Christmas in Dec...the early church often put there celebrations at the same time as pagen ones to lure pagens to christianity. Find a Catholic priest in the yellow pages and ask them.
The first answer was correct and brief sinceyou didn't vote a best answer I thought I would elaborate.

I leave it to specific religions to decide if they really believe that. I don't. Halloween has always meant fun for me. When I was a kid it meant using my creativity to make costumes; as an adult, I decorate the house and give out candy -the pre-wrapped kind parents don't have to worry about.

No! Of course not. Halloween is just for fun!It is a celebration to commemorate our deceased loved ones. It doesn't mean that way. Look, I'm a Christian. We have costume parties,we play trick or treats, we give away candies. In fact, it is the holiday of our dead loved ones. If you celebrate this, it resembles that you still love and remember them.

i'm usually not so blunt on this site, but simply put, NO. to swear allegiance to anything, you would have to intend to do so. i watched some old b-movies the other day, not because i endorsed the idea of destroying japan with giant monsters, but because it was ENTERTAINMENT. i also watched a show about antient rome, not because i want to praise their gods, and restart the roman empire, but because i wanted to learn.
Despite what the logic you mentioned would suggest, i have not since tried to attack tokyo, take over rome, nor has any rational person suggested otherwise.
