Justices are appointed to the Supreme Court for life and why?

It is a good law. If Justices were allowed to sit on the bench after they had died, they'd take up room, wouldn't get any work done, and would pose a hygene problem.

No it isn't. They are supposed to be free of politics but are appointed for this very reason. It isn't fair that a person, that may not even have been elected by the people, but by the electoral college so that he doesn't even represent the majority of people, can appoint for life a person that has the ultimate decision concerning right and wrong.

It is to guarantee that judges aren't just appointed to attribute to a single presidents agenda. Yes I think it is fair, otherwise we'd have a lot of supreme court justices in favor of G Bush.

of course it is not. People change and consequently justices change. I have no idea why we appoint them for life, but I am making it my mission to change that.

It's in the Constitution.

If you don't like it - take the steps to change it.
