I'm asking because I've always been interested in trying, but I can't go for it for at least three more years, because I don't live in California or the Northeast, and won't be able to until I finish college and start Medical school. I'm in my early 20s now, if I start looking for roles at 26 or 27 will I be too late? I hear most people who make it in acting start quite early. I look very young for my age (like 16-18) and am very good looking, won't that help?

I should also note that for now I'm trying to preserve myself like nobody's business. No drinking, smoking, or overconsumpton of unhealthy food. I have to look my best when I began trying out!

Should also note that I'm not one of those who will drop out unless I KNOW I've reached the point of fame. Even then, I'm in a hard place because if I get into Med. School (I'm aiming for Ivy League) it would be a shame to leave without completing it...

There are people who started in their 60s, so no, you're not too old. And remember the SPF to keep your skin looking young! Also, you can do some community theater and your college acting program now and see if you like it. However, med school takes so much time, you wouldn't have time for auditions, so you need to decide if you really want to go to med school, or if you want to pursue your dream. Personally, you have to go to 100 auditions to get one part, and only 7% of professional actors make more than $15,000 a year from acting, so med school is a better way to make money, but when you die, do you really want to say, "I never pursued my dreams, but I always paid my bills!"?

Just a thought, but if you get into med school and then decide to drop out for acting - do you think you might be taking a place at school that could otherwise go to someone who really wants to be a doctor? Maybe you could talk to an agent and find out a bit more. Have you considered acting training or getting involved in local dramatic productions to see if you are good at it and/or if you really like it? Good luck.

If you are smart enough for college and medical school, you know that acting is not a realistic goal. Looks are not going to get you to Hollywood. Get over yourself and make smarter plans in case your "acting career" washes out. Keep up the healthy stuff, this can only be a good thing to do for yourself.

Abe Vigoda was in his 70's when he got his big break playing "Fish" on Barney Miller. If you don't like being a doctor, it wouldn't be too late to break into acting.

As long as you can act you're never too old. (unless you're dead)
