We live in melbourne, trying to help a child living in Russia with muscular distrophy. The wheelchair costs 6,500 euros (approx 10,300 AUD) made by Meyra. We need all the help we can get to raise this money. Thank you in advance.

If you are in a country with third world conditions, you may be able to get one for free through Wheelchairs for kids - an Australian organisation which donates wheelchairs for poor and needy children. (see sources)

One aid agency which helps to distribute these chairs is AFAP (the Australian Foundation for the Peoples of Asia and the Pacfic).

The best way is usually the msot annoying- a series of smallish fundraisers.

Get some good photos of the child to use- big poster-size and smaller 'desk' size.

Put a coin jar everywhere that will let you with a nicely done photo of the child on it. Coin jars work better when there is a game involved- fill it with water and put a shot glass inside it- drop the coin in the glass for a free 'something' (make arrangements with the place the jar is located for giving out an instant prize.)

Get the bar or social group you are most closely associated with excited to help so they will help sponser a couple dinners, auctions, etc.

Arrange some sort of activity- a walk-a-thon, dart competition, etc. that costs to enter, costs to watch (if possible), etc. Offer part of the money raised back as prizes. Sell consessions and souveneirs.

Once you get these in place, start shopping for matching grants. It is usually easier to get money donated if you can get more from another source!

Send out an evite (www.evite.com) to everyone you know, that there's a small fundraising event at your house for one hour. Put out coffee and dessert or bagels, depending on the time of day. Explain what you need the money for and how much you need. This is low-cost, low effort, and will get good results. For the people who give, ask them if they'll host a similar event at their home and ask their friends. Easy to do, you can get it done in ten days.

Have a neighborhood yard sale. Get people to donate items or even meals or car washes. Tell a local radio show about it.
Find out how much the chair will cost as make that a visible goal.

Get the people you know invovled. Do a bake sell!

Or you can contact your local YMCA, some of them have contacts to charity programs that offer free wheelchair to children.

Go some type of Childrens Hospitals, or like WebMD, or your local hospitals.
Also, how about a 'car wash' or 'yard work'. Call your local News stations also.
Good luck

Why don't you meet some charitable organizations or contact local Health authorities for help. You can also try with Lions Club of your area.
