Are Australians Stupid?

Question

There have been a number of segments on TV here in Australia lately about Americans being ignorant of geography/having poor general knowledge etc. I went on youtube and googled "stupid Australians" and came up with a few segments almost identical to those airing here, but with Australian people instead of Americans (note, some of them were not actually Australian people, but people putting on accents etc or from NZ and Britain).

These segments had watermarks which suggested they were actually aired on TV at some point, in the US, not just vids made for Youtube.

SO: are these segments common in the US, too? If so, do they only make fun of Aussies? And, finally, is it really that hard to tell our accents from Brits or Kiwis??

i think thats a tough queston. stupid is derrogatory and i dont think that one whole group of any people are stupid..........all groups have some stupid people in them

If such videos are common, I have never seen them! And yes, I can tell an Aussie accent from a British but not sure about the Kiwi's(?).
But then again I can't always tell a Texan's accent from a Carolina one so shoot me!
We poke fun at ourselves often and we do it to other countries as well. Sometimes to be funny and sometimes to be just plain mean. I am not proud of the mean spirits, and do not watch those types of videos or programs.
I am a proud American, but would love to visit Australia if I can ever save up the plane fare! Where should I visit first?

I've never seen segments depicting non-Americans as being stupid (certainly not Australians). I have seen the segments depicting Americans as stupid.

As for accents, I think I can tell a Brit accent from an Aussie accent. How do the Kiwis sound? I have no idea.

Every country has their idiots. I think people take 3minute segments and television shows regarding or from other countries other then their own too seriously.

No I've never seen one. As for the accents I don't really pay attention since I hear so many accents from all over through out the day.

american news doesn't make fun of the stupidity of other countries~only our own. I guess we have a sense of humor. My **** stinks depending on what I eat if that helps.

I live in America and have never seen anything on TV degrading Australia here. But I have seen lots of nice things about Aussies here on TV.
Many Americans are not geographically educated though. but mostly due to lack of good parents here. The schools try very hard to teach BUT parents seem to think that they do not have to be active in MAKING their own children learn. example: not doing anything except blaming the school for bad grades. even if the child never studies at home. Parents here are not very good.


P.S. I'm sure you can see I love Jesus very much also

I'd prefer to be a stupid australian then an up myself american who thinks there **** don't stink. But yes i do agree that Australialians are potrayed wrongly overseas. But the good thing is we don't give a rats *** and go on with our lives unlike the americans!!! AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI!!!

This is obviously a number of questions ... and targeted only to Americans ... I suppose that's why I got a thumbs down, eh? Not that Americans are at all parochial. Well, I was stupid enough to try to answer.. so I suppose I deserved it.... :) Poms and Kiwis are OK. They get as much as they give.
Those "stupid Amercians" videos aren't that funny. You can find ignorance anywhere you care to look.
