I'm not racist or anything, but I remember telling a lot of " Afircan Americans' that they are from Africa and they deny it and get angry. So if they don't want to get involved with Africa they shouldn't be called african americans then, and the only suitable name for them is black american

It doesn't really matter to me. I just wish everyone could agree on a term and be done with it. Most black Americans are many generations removed from their African roots so it doesn't make much sense to call them African but they are also brown, not black, so black doesn't make much sense either. Sometimes they are referred to as people of color but for older folks that sounds too close to the old term "colored" and it ignores the fact that we all have some color. Maybe I should just call them strongly pigmented Americans. In the end, I just call people what they want to be called so I stick with black because that seems to be the majority opinion among black people.

Why don’t we just call everyone regardless of their race an Americans.

If one were to call Blacks – Black American then we will need to call white people, white Americans, Asian people, Yellow Americans, Native Americans- Red Americans. Mexican Americans –brown Americans. Etc.

‘African Americans’ have ancestors from Africa. Most of their families have been here over 200 years. Now if someone say came to America from Africa 15 years ago and got citizenship then they would be an African American. Or what ever country the person came from.

while you're no longer racist, why are you telling any african human beings that they are from africa, extremely in the event that they have been born in usa of america, why is it any of your situation? some african human beings rather do prefer to be in touch with africa and a few do no longer, end of tale. yet maximum severely, this is their own guy or woman selection. One or some do no longer talk for the collective. As for terminology... it is not entirely incorrect to call us african human beings; because, regardless of being born right here, we are descended from africans, so we normally use the words interchangeably.

We are getting first generation Americans who are from Africa. Do they all want to be lumped together any more than the Italian and the Scottish Americans?
I detest the term "white" so I would have to vote against "black" as well. They both imply good or bad related to racist assumptions.

Here's an idea: Lets call them (drum roll please) Americans! Yeah, and if there were some situation that it was important to know what color he is we could say "he's (insert the most appropriate hue of brown here)" oh, and we could do the same thing with "White" people too. Wouldn't it be great, we could all be Americans?!

As a side note, how come no one feels bad lumping all white people together? Hmm, isn't that a point to ponder?
