I am an umpire and seccord is wrong--it is a double as he has reached 2nd base safely. Now the scoring 3rd baseman is position 5 not 6 so it would be scored 2b hit 8-5 if the throw comes from center 9-5 if from right fielder or 9-4-5 if the 2nd baseman is involved with the relay. or 8-6-5 put out if the shortstop is involved with the relay.

Its a Double with an assist to the fielder throwing the ball and a put out by the player making the tag. So if its a hit to right field and he hit his cut off lets say his SS and he hit the 3ard baseman, then its a double and a 9-6-5.

Yes it would be a double, with one exception. If the runner were to beat the throw to third, but overslide or come off the bag and be tagged out, it would be scored as a triple.

Official scorers would put it down as a double with a putout. Also an assist given to the outfielder who threw the ball in.

It's a double and whoever through him out whether it was the outfielder or cut off man throws it to third it goes down as a put out or an assist to the outfielder.
