The check engine light came on about a week ago and the car revs up to 6k rpms at only 70 mph. I'm thinking its stuck in 1st gear but when i try to change it to anything but drive it does not change. It sounds really bad like its struggling when i drive it...

I have no idea how to fix ANYHING under the hood but could do anything simple if told how..

Has anyone else had this issue? I really dont want to buy a new tranny. The car only has 85k miles on it. Any help? the more detailed the better... :)

It can't be stuck in 1st if your reaching 70 mph, your engine would have blown by now. I don't know what it could be exactly but your tranny shouldn't be a problem.

It's in limp-mode, so it actually goes into second gear and no higher. It's a fail-safe to keep from damaging the transmission when something is wrong.

Certainly not recommended to keep driving it like this at those speeds.

Chrysti is correct, the input/output speed sensors are a very common repair on these transmissions and is a relatively inexpensive repair.

When you do the key on/key off cycle, it should give codes in the digital odometer area instead of flashing the check engine light.

You'll probably have code P0720, it's the most common (for the output speed sensor circuit malfunction).

The car has a computer that you can check. Turn the key switch off and one five times and the last time leave it in the accessory position. Now the "check engine" light will start to flash. What you do is watch it. Say it flashes once then pauses then flashes four more times. That means 14. It will flash and then pause and flash again, when it has run the entire test it will flash five times quick and then five more times. You' ll get the hang of it once you see it start flashing, just do step one again. Now you will need to contact the dealer and tell them what code flashed or you can go t an auto parts store like Auto Zone and buy the book for your car, which I suggest. The book will also have trouble shooting for the car and it will tell you what is wrong. Hang in there.

It sounds like to me your transmission filter is dirty and needs changing. You could always unhook one of the tranny lines form the radiator and run the fluid out, then put it back on and fill up with new fluid.

perhaps they only choose to do away with it. those fashions have been very undesirable approximately suited issues and no count what we did, they could nonetheless have issues some weeks later. right it rather is something persons do no longer understand. Chrysler does not make convertibles.....era. They make the coup and then places them on the lot waiting to deliver to sellers. yet another business employer then buys them and transports them to their production facility the place they proceed to cut back the suited off and make it right into a convertible! Then they'll transport them back to Chrysler the place that's offered back and shipped to sellers. Chrysler warrants the suited and factors and charges the convertible business employer for maintenance executed over a undeniable volume. The factors that make up the operation of the suited are no longer of suited high quality in my opinion. the final element you will see putting in my driveway is a Chrysler convertible.

might be a speed sensor have it checked , it could be a real simple repair. they have output and input speed sensors that can cause this complaint. sensor is about $40.00 and 1 1/2 hours in labor . if it is a speed sensor have them both replaced at the same time then you wont have to pay all that labor again down the road
