Dragon Quest VIII super high tension?

In dragon quest VIII how do you acquire a state of super high tension. I try to psych up after I reach level 50 but it won't go any higher like some of the monsters can.

The above posters are correct, quite often you are unable to charge to 100 (super high tension) on the 1st try. It's totally random. One thing that will help is once you get the ingredients to make the "Timbral of Tension", which when used will raise all characters tension. Here are the ingredients:
Sun Crown + Tough Guy Tattoo + Magic Beast Hide
I was eventually able to get the ingredients to make 2 of them, but not until later in the game.

Eventually (just on random chance) when you reach 50 tension, it will not give the message of "Has reached a state of high tension". When that happens, keep trying to tension that character, and eventually it will go to 100. After that, any character can get to 100, but it won't always work.

You need to continue to psych up. That happens a lot. Try to stay with as much health as possible too. That tends to help. It's not an always auto, but it works.
