You sound like me, my menstrual cycles were horrible, I got really bad cramps, diarreah, vomited and often felt like fainting. I also went on birth control for my cramps.Honestly my early labour pains were not as bad as my menstrual cramps. Actually they were very similar, I think you might be better off than you think because you are used to pretty bad pain with your cycles. I even delayed my epidural, I can't say that our experiences will be the same, but to me the labour pains were not much worse. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I attribute that to suffering from bad cramps during my period. Also since I had my first baby I no longer get menstrual cramps anymore at all. Good luck to you, I think you will handle it just fine. I don't think it will be as bad as you think. Also if you do plan to get an epidural you won't feel anything after that.

Labor is painful. There is no way around that. I would suggest that if it is that severe of a problem I would ask for a c-section. The pain afterwards is greater but then you have a new baby to take care of that might take your mind off the pain. I don't want this to sound cold but your baby will be worth every ounce of that pain and because you are going to be a new mommy you need to suck it up for the sake of your baby. This won't be the last time you have to make a huge sacrifice for the sake of your child so you might as well start out now. You never got anything out of your period pains so it may be easier for you to think of the end result and getting to hold your baby instead of the pain. Good luck and talk to your doc if you are really that concerned.

I found labour pains quite hard, I am not going to lye. But they induced me and all of a suddon i had really hard contraction with no build up of small ones. I was throwing up everywhere. But after 2 hours of that the doctor gave me an epidural because they babies heart rate was really high. After that it was great! I ended up with a c-section which doesn't really hurt at the time but after it hurts alot for quite a while. That being said my daughter is 3.5 months old and i would do all over again in a minute. At the time it really hurt but you just have to remember that you are going to have a little baby that will being you so much joy. They are worth it!!! I would just talk to your doctor about pain meds and push through! You will do great!

Well there isnt much you can to make the pain not come, except have a scheduled c-sectioin. Try out labor and when you cant handle it, get the epidural! Its not going to be with out pain even if you get the epidural before you have one single contraction :( The actualy delivery hurts epidural or not... maybe talk to your doc about a c-section if you are that concerned about it, but that hurts afterwards from what I understand. Good Luck!

You get to hospital promptly and when the pains start getting really bad you ask for an epidural. Dont ask for it too soon or it might have worn off by the time you REALLY need it. Also dont ask for it too late, because then they wont give it you (dont know why not)
I didnt have one for the birth itself, but i had one for removing the placenta after I gave birth. I had horrible contraction pains after giving birth and it took those away nicely - was like floating on a cloud almost!

Discuss this with your doctor. They can help you feel better. You can always have an epidural and if you do, don't feel like a failure. Labor is painful I will not lie but usually it's not as bad as you think it will be. The contractions feel like intense cramps. Just try to relax and not worry because stress is not good for you and it's not good for the baby.

To help with you anxiety concerning all aspects of childbirth, I suggest you enroll in a Lamaze/childbirth preparation course. These are sometimes offered at the hospital or birthing centers. This course gives you a lot of information and helps to develop confidence. Look into it. Less anxiety means a better birthing process. Good Luck to you.

For me, every contraction I kept telling myself I am one closer to getting my new little bundle of joy. Also had an epidural towards the end..... then no more pain. I highly recommend epidural - though I did have a sore back for a month after it but it was worth it. If I have another baby I will be insisting on epidural!!!!!

The worst part of labour, in my opinion, is the actual birth of the baby. I mean, you are trying to push something that is 6 or 7 pounds out of you, while lying on your back.
Personally, when i have children, i plan on giving birth standing up. I dont care if it is easier for the doctor to work if i am laying down, it is easier for me to push it out when standing.
If you do decide to give birth standing, you cant have an epidural. If you have ever tried to walk with a foot that has fallen asleep, it is sort of the same thing.
