Pomegranates will definitely grow in Texas, and they have beautiful red flowers to boot. You should be able to find seeds online, and I would think many nurseries would have young plants as well, although you may need to wait until spring for that. I don't know what area of Texas you live in, but my grandmother had a big pomegranate bush in her back yard in Austin, Texas, and I've seen them growing in the Dallas area too. I don't know how well they'd do in west Texas, but since you're talking about forests, I'm going to assume that's not where you are :-)

Be sure not to get dwarf pomegranates unless that's what you want. They're just as pretty, but they're very small plants, and that doesn't sound like what you have in mind.

I found a link that has the address of a source in De Leon, Texas; I now live in Washington state, and Raintree Nursery here (also listed at that link) is very reputable as well.

Good luck!

*******Yes you can grow
*********Pomegranate in Texas
Because of its variance in cold hardiness, some types may well survive typical winters in north central Texas, especially the ornamental types which produce only small fruit, if any. The fruiting types should survive most winters throughout south, central and southeast Texas.
It is considerably more cold hardy than citrus; some can tolerate temperatures as low as 10 degrees but others may be damaged at 18 degrees. For best results, pomegranate should be grown in full sun.
Be sure to read the information in the link below expecially the 2 categories listed below.
