The township I live in is very weathly and some of the areas around here have HUGE houses (like gates and intercoms to get in). My family lives in a small 3 bedroom home, in an area we call "the armpit of the Main Line" as a joke. The kids at my high school got cars for their birthdays, and other people around here know that. When I tell people where I went to high school, they assume I'm rich, and we're not, not by a long shot. :-) It's just another sterotype, there's tons out there. People just assume.

i think you answered your own question on this one.
We have lived in our suburb since it was a nothing suburb now it is an area where many houses are 1mil plus
if you're just telling people you meet now where you live how are they suppose to know that you're not rich??
P.S. It's really crappy for people to even say, "so you must be rich?" That's just rude. You don't want to be around people like that in life.

You say yourself that many houses are 1mil plus, so what do you expect people to think? Everyone should just know that your family was there so early they didn't have to pay the premium? The common perception is that your neighborhood is expensive, so wealthy people must live there. They have no way of knowing that you are the exception. So you just have to be patient with people and explain politely if it becomes an issue.

Now say you live in a area were trash is, alot of crime and homeless and drug addicts would people think your rich than? No! Now.... look at the other side if you lived in Hollywood in a big house why wouldn't people think your rich and have nice cars. Freaky I guess!

Certain areas have "rich" parts of town because of the price of the houses and property taxes. If you live in an area where houses are expensive, then people take for granted that you have a certain amount of $ in order to be able to afford that house. Makes sense doesn't it?

Yes, I had the same experience and I moved in this place 12 years ago. Now all the riches move in and they earn their living from stock options. I feel uncomfortable to live around here but, this place is heaven for everyone even my family. The house around mind is 2.2 million and I have no idea where my neighbors get money from beside stock options. However, I told my family that we will make the best for our life and try to live here until we die.

In my experience, people think you're rich when you lived in rural areas. The perception of rural areas where people can't afford them and it has less city traffic. This is the incorrect perception of rural areas...people who live in these areas just want to be away from city traffic, left alone, enjoy the wilderness of these areas.
Maybe the people who you come to meet or know need to look up the definition of "rich".
Does it mean when people live in California are rich...I don't think so. America paints people who resides in a particular area of cities and states means they are rich.

i think of you spoke back your person question in this one. we've lived in our suburb through fact it improve right into a no longer something suburb now that's a interior reach the place many properties are 1mil plus in case you're only telling human beings you meet now the place you reside how are they assume to comprehend which you're no longer wealthy?? P.S. that is rather crappy for human beings to even say, "so which you ought to be wealthy?" it is in simple terms impolite. you do no longer choose to be around human beings like that in the time of existence.

because different suburbs have different demographics, people with higher incomes move into suburbs which are considered to be better. All your neighbours probably moved into your suburbs and built expensive houses and you are still there, Im not saying you are poor, but you just arent the typical demographic of that suburb (it happens in all cities)

You must be gorgeous, rich, confident, successful and proud too. And so you can afford to stay in such locality, which is considered to be a posh area. A right person has rightly asked this question. And, being a poor guy, I have also answered it rightly, understanding your state of mind.
Thank you. I also apologize if I have hurt any of your feelings.
Regards,
