I know just how ya feel, bro.

I'm a retro console collector and still love to play 2d games and use emulators on my PC.

This whole Blu-ray and HD stuff is just a new fad like the way a lot of us acted over "true 16-bit graphics" back in the day.

Remember how The the old TG-16 got dumped on so much because it had an 8-bit CPU? So many people were being indoctrinated by EGM and GamePro about system specs that they were focused more on which console to buy instead of considering what kind of games they wanted to play.

I still see that happening with today's consoles. It seems that we all always have to learn the hard way that it is the games that will make or break a system.

I remember back when Strider came out on the Genesis and everyone was talking about it being a 10 meg cartridge and all of the oooos and aaaahs.

I mostly play the older consoles via emulation like the Atari 7800, Coleco Vision, NES, S-NES, TG-16, Genesis, Arcade and some of the old handhelds.

I may be wrong about this but, I have a feeling that video gaming is dying out because game developers are getting to were they keep on turning out a lot of the same ol' same ol' with just updated graphics and sound instead of shooting for serious interactivity. Sure there are some good interactive games out there but, not enough so, people are turning to other stuff for entertainment like more advanced DVD players and more interactive stuff on the net like virtual personas and such.

It's sad but, it's just the way the world works.

Someday, some of this generations youngsters may be sitting around, having a similar conversation about the technological entertainment that they miss.

Nicely put, I agree. I play a game for the gameplay & the storyline. I don't mind a game with "less than perfect" graphics if it's fun to play. I don't buy a console for blu ray or internet, I buy it to play games! And I AM an older gamer. I'm 32, and my first console was an Atari 2600.
