Like I said, I am 16, male, and only 5'8. My Dad is only 5'7. I want to grow to be at least 5'10. Is it likely or even possible that I can grow that much? Another question - if I eat very healthy, and got the correct amount of sleep every night, how much will that effect my growth (in inches) vs. if I just ate so-so and got a little less sleep than I should? Is there anything else I can do? Does the amount of exercise you get effect how much you grow? Are there any specific exercises that will help?
Well, thanks in advance people, can't wait to hear your answers!

Your genetics predetermine your height, but the growth hormone is only released at night, so not getting adequate amounts of sleep could prevent you from attaining your predetermined height. Eating right and getting plenty of sleep is the answer.

Your growth habit has much to do with genetics (mom, dad and grandparents) so look at those folks and see how tall all of them are, then you'll have a good idea.
To grow taller (which many generations do because of better food, medical attention, etc.), eat very healthy, exercise, get plenty of rest (teens need between 9-12 hours of sleep per night) and don't do drugs or alcohol.
Beyond that, males tend to grow well into their early 20's, whereas females usually stop by the time they are 16.
If you are 16 and already an inch taller than dad, that is a good sign you may grow more. But one thing to remember; it's not how tall you are physically, it is how big a person you are outside of that that counts. By that I mean have a good character and do good things. Many people who were shorter than the norm grew to be giants in many fields.

This is all genetically programmed. You really cannot do anything to change it.
As to when and for how long you'll grow, no one can say. Boys usually grow later than girls. Most girls stop growing around 16 but boys continue for more years. My ex was only 5'8" when he graduated high school, yet grew another 5 inches by the time he was 23. That doesn't mean you will.
I have two sons in their mid 20s. One is 6'0" the other is only 5'9" or so. Nothing he can do to get as tall as his brother.
:-)
No matter how tall you get, it's your personality will be the thing to worry about. You are not short, so don't think you are. You don't need a big attitude to compensate.

It all depends in family genes. If you have other poeple in your family that are tall like aunts and uncles, grandparents, ect. Chances are you will still grow more, you're only 16. Im 17 and im 5'10 and still growing. Good luck!
