There is no definitive single answer.
The roots of jazz range from African drumming to gospel to folk music to blues to ragtime.
It is generally acknowledged beyond refutation that jazz coalesced around 1890 in the New Orleans area. Whether it was Buddy Bolden or Jelly Roll Morton who was the first actual player to play a highly improvised "hot blues" style is inconsequential.
If you're looking for a single, clear, broad answer it is this:
Jazz originated in the American deep south at the end of the 19th century.

Word Web gives two origins:
"A genre of popular music that originated in New Orleans around 1900 and developed through increasingly complex styles" and
"A style of dance music popular in the 1920s; similar to New Orleans jazz but played by large bands."
So, I guess the definitive answer would be New Orleans.

African Americans, imbued with the culture and music of their homeland, spread it after their freedom from slave labour after the civil war.
They learned to use western instruments. They then combined their only knowledge of music- their own- to these instruments and thus jazz was born- an interesting, exotic and rhythmic style of western music came around the beginning of the 20th century.
Western composers in America discovered this new fangled style and used their genius to utilize and eventually catapult jazz into popularity and sophistication.
it's base nature of distinct rhythms and improvisation created many branches of jazz, from the forefather ragtime to swing, blues, be bop, and fusions.
So the straight answer would be somewhere in the south-- New Orleans perhaps. But in reality, jazz's parents are hard to truly distinguish.
my favorite style is swing- performed by big band of course.
My favorite composer of jazz would be Gershwin and his groundbreaking orchestral works.
