Most of the ones always mentioned here at Y!A are listed on Booaghost's page of game links, under online multiplayer worlds. I guess about 75% of them are free.

Just started playing Archlord. It's free to download the game and play with the option of paying for in-game credits to get special items. It's similar to WoW but with differences. I like the combat animation better but it doesn't show side by side comparisons for equipment like WoW does. As I said, I just started playing but like it so far.

Rappelz is pretty decent. A bit like Lineage 2.

any good ones? nothing good is free. but Guild wars is free you just got to pay for the games and the expanions but there is no monthly fee.
