Just curious to find out if anyone on YA has ever asked a question and had been given such horribly wrong advice (and you heeded it). If so what happened??
I've read some answers to questions that truly shock me. Some of the info given is almost cruel, and sometimes harmful to the parties involved.
Has this happened to you personally?

I'm just curious as to find out if someone has actually been given bad or harmful advice that they have used. It is my hope that everyone who asks a question on here knows enough to seek advice from a legitimate person who they know and can trust, but you never know..

Not to me personally, but I've seen some really crappy answers given to some poor questioner that's gotta be harmful.
This would not be the place where I would ask really serious questions. I'd sooner ask my loved ones, friends, or the cashier at the grocery store before I brought my real issues here.
Because the people here are only offering their advice, and experience, and there is no claim here otherwise. We, as a group, are not professionals.
((hugs))

Have you ever noticed that a lot of the questions here are just dumb. They have to know that the answers will be just as dumb.
Others ask questions to help them justify some of their bad decisions, looking for an ahhh that's all right, yes its OK to continue to make them.
Then there are those who are looking for homework shortcuts. Someone using them and doesn't research their validity are in peril.
To take advice here as the only solution is foolhardy. One must check other sources as well.
My best advise to many of the folks on here is use the spell check, and take a refresher course on sentence structure. My sixth grade nephew has better structure then many on here.
Your's was actual a good question for once.

For the most part, people give their own advice, and even more, their opinions on the YA.
You can take the advice as you want, or discard it as you may at your own free will...nobody is pulling your arm to do what theyve said as their answer ; its simply their thoughts on that certain question.
If someone needs factual information, i would suggest the library or other non-biased web sites on the internet.
....in my opinion, of course
hope this helped

If I told you that many people here have almost certainly been given horribly wrong advice that probably was harmful to them then would that mean that my answer to you now would also in fact do more harm than good in that you yourself will probably be harmed by knowing that people here are indeed giving cruel and harmful answers to those that are asking questions?...

I haven't been given any harmful answers but, I have gotten some really rude answers. I emailed that person back and told them how I felt it a nice way.

No I haven't, but I do not like the kids who for some reason just write a few words showing their stupidity and then thats all. If you are talking about that then you must understand that people must sift through the words that are like this to get the gold.

Well not exactly, that is why they have a rating to safeguard the questioner and it is best to heed the answers that are highly rated. Or you can let Yahoo's Panel to choose the best answer for you. Just as in this case.

Yes, it has. And not in P&S, I expect it there. It was elsewhere. But...the fact is, there are few experts on here and while you can take advice as an option--it really should only be used to brainstorm your own solution in most cases.
