= ( I need some more help. I'm going to the school on Monday so I can get a tutor but if someone can please help me in the interim I would greatly appreciate it.

very nice use of the word "interim"

the formula is:

x= (-b+- Sqrt[b^2 -4ac])/(2a)
when you put the equation in the form:
ax^2 + bx +c = 0
that corresponds to:
2x^2 - x - 6 = 0
so, a=2, b=-1, c=-6

x=(--1 +- Sqrt[1-(4)(2)(-6)])/4
x=(1+- Sqrt[1--48])/4
x=(1+-Sqrt[49])/4
x=(1+-7)/4
x=(1-7)/4 and x=(1+7)/4

x= -3/2 and 2

2x^2 - 6x - 20 = 0 x = (-b ± sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/2a x = (-(-6) ± sqrt((-6)^2 - 4(2)(-20)))/(2(2)) x = (6 ± sqrt(36 + a hundred and sixty))/4 x = (6 ± sqrt(196))/4 x = (6 ± 14)/4 x = (20/4) or (-8/4) x = 5 or -2 ANS : 5 or -2

K...2x^2-x-6=0.

Then put it in for the quadratic formula. (Do you have it?)

2 x ² - x - 6 = 0
x = [ 1 ± √(1 + 48) ] / 4
x = [ 1 ± 7 ] / 4
x = 2 , x = - 3 / 2

2x^2 = x + 6
2x^2 - x - 6 = 0
(2x +3) (x - 2) = 0
x = (-3/2, 2)
