Why do people in this society worship youth? I love and look forward to becoming older and wiser. Age is just a number.
What are the benefits for becoming older and what do you enjoy about this season in life?

First off: You don't need to ask permission to ask your Q here.
I personality don't worship youth but there are times when I look in the mirror and see my, so called, youth sagging around my ankles.
Age is just a number and the rest is inside you.
I don't think of myself as old etc. I am very young at heart, just wish the rest of me was a tad less creaky.
What I enjoy is the knowledge I have gained over the years & wish I could really put it to good use in the work force, but employers want only the younsters for they can pay them less.

My oldest brother is 74, I'm 59.
There is a complete generation between us.
I have looked forward to
getting older all of my life.
I think I come from a long line of old souls.
I figured that with age comes knowledge
and I have an incurable thirst for knowledge.
You are only as old as you feel.
Ignore that reflection in the mirror,
that's not you. It's only the shell that
your mind is occupying.
As far as society worshipping youth,
I think it is not a matter of worshipping youth,
but rather the fact that they
miss the good times and the no responsibilities
that come from being young.
I have many more benefits being older
than I think I had when I was young.
I grew up in the 1960s. Yes, I part of that bunch.
If you check on line with RSVP,
this is a program called
Retired Seniors Volunteer Program and
AARP,
which is American Association of Retired Persons,
they can shed more light on the subject
than I can from my soap box.

The worst age in my life was when I turned 25. That day is the day I realized I was not a kid anymore. I had been married for 4 years, had a daughter, and was an Air Force Captain and a Pilot. I really wanted to be the kid I was without all those responsibilities. The other day I went and got a hair cut and told the barber to only cut the grey hairs. When he was finished there was a huge pile of hair around the chair. I said "I only told you to cut the grey ones" "I did", he answered. I have been married to the girl I saw at a college party for 37 years now. She still, in my eyes, is that beautiful young girl with the long dark hair and sexy deep green eyes. When I look in the mirror I don't know who I am looking at. I have all those wrinkles, my hair and beard are grey, and unless I am wearing my glasses I can't see. I am 60 years old and feel like almost a third of my life has passed me by in one second. If I could do it all over again with what I know now I would never want to, I am extremely happy with my life so far. I remember trying to cop a feel from my prom date in high school. I remember Ike as president. I met JFK and LBJ. I met one English Prime Minister (I don't remember who). My best advise to anyone is what my mother-in-law once said "It is after you learn it all that counts".

I'm actually not sure, my husband is a senior and it bothers him that he looks so old and would love to look younger. There are not many benefits to becoming older, because you don't know what the future holds. Make sure that you will be secure when older and that you have funds to fall back on. If you are healthy getting older is great. But you never know, you must prepare. I also agree age is a number as long as you are healthy. Some people just don't age gracefully they long for their youth.

You are right, age is just a number. The older you get the less things that use to bother you matter. however your mind still thinks that you are younger than you are and you have a tendency to over do things. You have more health problems, but you just keep plugging along....plan well for the future because social security and most pensions aren't keeping up with inflation.
Do the things you want to do when you are young and can still get around good and save the leisure things for retirement.
You appreciate the little things in life and material things aren't that important.

Be sure to keep your mind active, when you retire don't just set in front of the boob tube, make good life long friends regardless of where you move. Get involved with a good church. None of us know how long we will live, my father died at 47 years old, I am now 61 and my health isn't the greatest but I am too stubborn to let that slow me down or keep me from doing things that I enjoy doing.

Don't wish your life away. While there are benefits in knowledge and understanding that comes with age, It was gained through the experience of living life. Every age in life is important to utilize as an ongoing experience and exercise in learning. When we get older, we are no more than the accumulation of our experience in life. Take advantage of the time you have throughout life to become the best person you can be, to enjoy and share with loved ones all that you can. It's great that you think highly of the wisdom of your elders. You can learn much from them, but live your life to it's fullest today and everyday. Life is short. make every day count.

I honestly don't know because I always felt like you do. Now at 61, the only thing I see wrong with being older is that I know I have fewer years on the earth to look forward to; but, my health is still as good as it ever was, getting older does not necessarily mean you are going to turn into a basket case, and I certainly am a lot wiser.

If I knew then what I know now... :-)

It has always been that way , it's just we notice it more when we get older . One of the benefits is I don't spend a lot of time worrying about whether I'm liked or not . I am a decent person and if people are rude or insulting to me then I think they are the one with a problem. I also don't spend a lot of time on what I'm going to wear. I was never one to wear makeup anyway so I don't have that problem either. I enjoy this time of life because we don't have to struggle to get ahead anymore and we don't want or need a lot of things to be happy .I am content with my life .

On the humorous front, I enjoy folk gradually paying no attention to what I do or say! lol

Most of the times I enjoy what I have learned about this life and its denizens and to appreciate the 'little' things life has to offer.

I enjoy having no longer to have to prove myself in the work a day world. I've had three major careers and now I work, but mainly to add to retirement income and to stay somewhat productive and get out of the house. So I no longer take the job home, either literally or in my head.
